Dearest Dad,
I’m so grateful for the gift God gave us in having such an awesome father! I just heard about an interesting study that showed that the religious example of the father with regular church attendance was the most influential predictor of the future religious practices of his children ….. which is why God placed the spiritual leadership of the family squarely on the father(priest). Thank you dad for leaving us with such a priceless legacy!
With fondest memories on your birthday!❤️

My dad will forever be in my heart and thoughts. I am truly blessed to have had a loving and God fearing father. I can say he loved the Lord with all his soul and might. He lived by precept and example. He was always ready to share God’s word with someone. A true soldier on the battlefield for the Lord! He finished the race! By God’s grace we will meet again in the earth made new.

Friday 3-18-2022 marked nine years without my precious father but nine years closer to a grand reunion! I am forever grateful to God for blessing me with the "best" father in the world. I am convinced of this truth only because he was totally committed to reflecting our Heavenly Father!
May God help me to be so committed !

Every time I think of your father, I remember his pjs! Such a strong faith he had. We were so blessed with the fathers we had.

Something I remember from when we were kids is that even as a child, I could tell that he loved your mom so much - his "Katie", it was evident by the way he called her name.

Love to all of you.

Thank you Dad for demonstrating through your diligent study of the Word the source of true wisdom and power. I am forever grateful for the gift of the joy you showed in wholeheartedly serving our Heavenly Father and introducing me to that joy at a young age. As we await the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, I am encouraged to let His words abide in me that I may bring forth fruit for the kingdom. Until we meet again on that blessed shore you will never be forgotten!(February 26, 2022 Dad's 97th Birthday)

I smile as I recall the image of my father intently reading the word of God for extended periods of time. This was his daily habit. The power of that word was seen in the way he lived his life...following in the footsteps of his best friend Jesus Christ. I am challenged to study God's word with the same discipline and enthusiasm and to become the "Bible student" he wished all of his children to be. Thank you Lord for gifting us a father that set such a wonderful example of love and faithfulness to You! In loving memory Dad, on "your Birthday." Posted 2-26-2019

Today would have been your 94th birthday! Words failed me today. It seems as though you should still be here. You deserve to be resting peacefully. Those trumpets are soon to sound. A crown awaits you. A well deserved crown .  See you in the morning Elder Mitchell.  See you in the morning ☀️

'What you are to be, you are now becoming', has been the one quote that Dad implanted in my life, that speaks to the type of man and mentor my dad was. As his third child, and last son, I bear his name.
That name is so special to me now..for it reminds me of what a real Christian man, father, husband and friend should be like.
Dad's one desire was to be like Jesus, and to help others know Him.
Today on what would have been Dad's 94th birthday, I thank God for gifting me with the privilege to see Jesus lived out in the life of My Pastor, mentor, friend, and Dad..Godwin Neville Mitchell Sr.
By God's Grace, I'll see you in the morning! Psalm 30:5.
Look forward to spend eternity with you and your best friend..Jesus!

Gone But Never Forgotten

Gone but never forgotten, but missed dearly.
We love you so clearly.
March 18th is the day that we lost you,
And for some time it felt as though our lives had ended too.
For us remembering is easy,
We do it every day.
Missing you is the problem that will never go away…

Today marks your 93rd birthday.
Loss has taught us many things I can say.
We have many happy memories of you to get us thru the day.
Sadness is still very much in our hearts.
But happy memories bring comfort while we are apart.

Years have passed but your words still ring clearly
You said "love Christ more dearly
Follow him more nearly."
Your life's memory is a keepsake
From which we will never part.
We hold this truth to be evident in our hearts.
Memories of you always brings a smile
Wishing we could but still have you for a little while.

The facts are clear
You are no longer here.
Knowing this will always cause a little pain
But, you are forever in our hearts
Until we meet again.

Dad shared the prayer of David daily from Psalms 51:7,10 “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me,and I shall be whiter than snow.”“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
This is my prayer today and always as we look forward to that glorious day when “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death, or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Rev 21:4NIV

Elder Mitchell mirrored the true image of Christlikeness. Always a soldier in tune for reaching out to lost souls. He is forever missed but I know he rest in Jesus. I a wait the day that the trumpet shall sound and those that sleep in Christ shall rise and meet Him in the air.

Life is like a garden, cultivating, pruning, fertilizing, and enjoying the fruits of your labor. However, amidst all of that there is the fading of the most beautiful flowers. My father taught us that enjoying the beauty of the flowers if only for a little while is worth it all. The beauty of having him in my life was worth it all. I look forward to walking in the garden with you, Daddy.

My dad was a very loving and caring father. God was truly first in his life. He was faithful to God, faithful to the church, faithful to the prison ministry, and faithful to his wife and family. He loved his family but he loved God even more. He was a man that strived to live what he preached. We will miss him very much. By God's grace we will meet again. Hold on my brothers and sisters!

My father was a man of God. He instilled in us the need to form a serious relation with our creator. He sent all his children to christian schools; so deep was his conviction in raising his children in the ways of the Lord, that he sacrificed for us to have christian education. I am thankful to my father for his guidance and his love for his family. He wlll be forever mised. Rest in Christ

Dad was the "best" father in every sense of the word.As the patriarch of our family he lived a life that consistently reflected his love relationship with Jesus. He modeled for us what is means to be a true Christian. Words cannot express how much we will miss his warm smile, sense of humor and words of wisdom. We look forward one day to being reunited with him in the earth made new!

Let the Church Say Amen!

July 3, 2013

A little over a year and a half ago I recorded one of my many conversations with dad. We always enjoyed talking about the serious things of life and eternity. The idea to record the conversation was prompted by my listening to NPR Morning Edition Story Corp, an oral history project that archives conversations of Americans in the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. I thought at the time what a great idea to record conversations with dad and mom for posterity! The following is an excerpt of that wonderful conversation...

I asked:"Dad, what words of wisdom do you have for your children if this was the last thing you could tell us?

He answered " Continue in the narrow path that leadeth to life eternal. This is not an easy path. It is a path that is clustered with grievances and hardships but the inner peace which Christ talks about is different from the world..you have rubbish on the outside but the inside is pure and undefiled. We have to be willing to let suffering be the means through which we can learn Godliness and endurance."
"I'm older now and i understand what God means when he said we must be like Him. Thy will must be done on earth as it is in heaven, not one jot or one tittle, the dot of an i of the cross of a t will be taken out of His law. God is infinite he sees and know everything about us. He has the last say. Now at 86 years my concentration must be on obedience, to follow His footsteps every step of the way... every step of the way."
"My greatest desire is to be like Jesus so when i see Him i will not run to the rocks and mountains. We see through a glass darkly but then darkness shall pass and we shall see Jesus in all of His beauty and purity."

I asked: "Dad, what is the greatest danger your grandchildren face?"

He answered " I think the greatest danger to my grandchildren  is if the parents are not living up to the ideals of the truth and pressing higher...they must take it seriously. The children must see their parents live what they are told, if not they may not curse them, but they will have a dislike for and will not respect God's truth. They must see it in their parents first! This is what i believe."

"I want to be in the first resurrection and to have all of you with me. This is my greatest hope to have all our children with us in heaven. I imagine how happy I will be if i see all my children gathered in glory and through the vast spans of the universe we spend eternity together!

Post response: "Dad, by the grace of God we will be with you in heaven... never more to part!"

Let the church say Amen!

My Strong Grendel

April 4, 2013

My Father was like a soldier… always serving with honor, protecting with pride.

Dad never let anyone or anything deter him from his Holy stride.

Dad’s steps were carefully planned

Only God knew just where each one would land

Dad never looked for praises

He never was one to boast

He just went on “loudly” working for God whom he loved the most.

His dreams were seldom spoken

His wants were few

And most of the time his worries would go unspoken too

Dad was there… A firm foundation through all our ups, downs and storms of life

Dad had a sturdy hand to hold on to

In times of stress and strife

Dad was TRUE….. He was one we could all turn to when times were good or bad

Dad is one of my greatest blessings!

He was my strong, strong Grendel….The Man I call DAD!!!

A Gift for Eternity

April 2, 2013

My father gave me the greatest gift that none can ever compare. One day I came home from school crying because I had been taunted about being adopted. The children at school felt that it was their responsibility to inform me that I could never be a Mitchell since, I had been adopted. My father took the time out of building a fence to let me know that was ‘foolishness’.  "Of course you're a Mitchell…I remember breaking in to say with a sorrowful voice that 'I AM adopted'. Daddy quickly interjected “So, was I.” What?! My daddy adopted. "What are you talking about?" I inquired. He began to tell me about how he became a child of God. I honestly do not remember all what was said, but what made an impression were these words, “Now you’re special because, you have been adopted twice since you’ve been baptized.”  My father made me think that being adopted was the most beautiful thing that could have ever happened, and he was correct because being a child of God means that one day I will see Daddy again this time for eternity.
