Heather never knew about this urn. Even now I don't know if its easier to think of or look at than it ever was.
A friend of ours who met Heather only once, decided to put new tires on our dually truck, when he saw this urn we made for her. A really big pay it forward. The tires are due to be changed again and I guess we're on our own this time.
Miss you always and on your birthday, Heather.
Lots of love to the Valentines and Macleans.

To a great friend and stepmom to Jennelle

May 27, 2013
Well it took me a couple of days to think about what I was going to write on this memorial site.I met Heather and Scott in1989 when I moved to Minden to buy the Dominion Hotel.Heather and Scott were the first people to offer up there friendship which grew closer as the days, months and years went by.We even had kids at almost the same time being Jennelle and Jack. After a few years along came Connar and the kids also became good friends even today.Heather was like a stepmom to my daughter and when we got together Heather and Jennelle would always have girl time.I experienced so many great times with Heather,at the ski hill, party's,Christmas and many times it was just around the dinner table.I remember when we first started the dinner club doing meals from all around the world and with mega bottles of wine.Well that got me thinking of how many people Heather had served at that dinner table.I know Jennelle and myself have had so many amazing dinners at that table.I can just imagine if Scotty could count how many different people they had served and partied with it would be an incredible number. So I'm ending my little story about what I think Heather enjoyed more than anything other than spending time with Scotty and that was to entertain and feed friends at the Valentine dining table.I will love and miss you forever Heather.

Home at last

November 14, 2012

When Heather and the last load of boxes came back from Calgary I was just getting back from up north, We came in on the 31st of December and Eilean and Travis came for dinner. We had "surf and turf" for dinner but I could not find a barbeque for the life of me. All the grocery stores were closing and at the last store I was able to fill the bottles and get the dinner on time. Everyone was famished and I swore i would have tried to cook the food on the gas fireplace if necessary. Later we met the folks across from our new home and stayed up with our new friends till six a.m.

Halloween and The Oracle

November 1, 2012

Halloween was a double your fun, two for one time of year for Heather, I think it may have been her favorite. The girl that knows how to have more fun than anyone, gets the ultimate costume party for a birthday party. No one needs to be the wiser!

In this photo we are taking a rest frome the flood of trick or treaters at 6015 58th St.
We are fortified with a lovely meal of Coquilles St. Jacques and Chardonnay, one for me and one for you.

Heather's decorations have made us the most popular house to plunder all the way up and down the street. Its a long street. We count fifty costumed candy culprits in the foyer and  Scott has to run to the store for more.

My role  was to commandeer the wishing well. It hummed, it glowed, it vibrated. Heather's oracle looked very real. Nobody gets candy without a sincere wish to the great spirit of the wishing well.

We recognized some repeat visitors that night, but one youngster girl comes all the way back down the block to change her wish. She believes that this is the real thing and she'd better make it right!

High Five Heather!

Jeeps don't float

September 29, 2012

If you go from highway 118 to Coboconk on a Saturday night, you had better know the back roads if you don't want a ride home in a police car. The trip starts from 118 to the Blairhampton road and down the baseline road to the east side of Shadow lake and come out at the Pattie house in Coboconk Ontario just at the very top of the Trent/Severn waterway. Our friends Julie and Toby had accompanied us to the bar in a Honda Civic. Heather and I went in Heather's Jeep. We arrived at the Pattie House, a hoppin' little bar on any weekend and especially on a Saturday night. We landed in there about ten and stayed to one, when we snuck home down the back roads again. To avoid the Mounties, I knew another shortcut to avoid going through Minden. I had been through this route two weeks ago and there was a bit of mud but no big deal. When we got to the tricky part, a steep incline down to were the water was, there was a sharp turn and Julie couldn't see our headlights. I assumed the water was shallow, so I put the pedal to the floor and drove into what turned out to be about 2-3 feet of water as the beavers had recently built a brand new dam at the far end. Heather swore if I got her home dry she wouldn't kill me. By the time I got back to shore, I was frozen solid from the thigh high water! It was about 500 feet  back to the good side. Toby and I were able to get the Honda back up the hill and then we made our way home where we all stripped down and piled into the waterbed and didn't get out for 24 hours.

The moral of the story is the beavers have way more time on their hands than humans do. Included Toby (Clayton), Julie, Heather, and Scott

Heather's Supper Table

September 12, 2012

Heather had the natural abilty to find the possibility in everything. At her supper table I always wanted to sit within poking distance. She was the last to finish her plate, savouring every bite. I loved to fill her wine glass, the red and the white. Her guests would marvel at the slick operation and the authenticity of her sauces. It might have been the dinner pictured here, looks like pumpkin soup followed by a sumptuous turkey dinner.  My help was not even asked for when I dumped the large glass measuring cup of  drippings for the gravy right down the sink. She and Scott stopped breathing for a moment and they didn't even try to choke me. We all recovered from that...eventually. At future dinners I would always offer to help make the gravy and wait for the punishment that never came. Thank You for your greatness of spirit and to the boys for always cleaning up!
