AMAZING SERENDIPITY IN NYC.
I was in NYC one year. While walking the streets of Manhattan, I noticed a Tibetan Bizarre and invited my GF to be to meet me there. I walked in and lo and behold, there was an old girlfriend...who just happened to be there! We were lovers in Key West thirteen years previous, and now here she was... but wait, there’s more.
I shared that I was to meet the woman I have been dating here in a few minutes; then we are going dancing at Ballroom Boogie off Union Sq.
Darleen Took out a small scrap of paper and written on it was the name of the dance hall that she was going to that very night; it was the same place! when we arrived who should be there all the way from LA but IRV!
That was only the first serendipity on that trip. I was also at the united nations in support of some thing I don’t recall and Irv was there and we discovered that we would be sharing the same flight on the way back to Los Angeles.

Irv and I
Irv was one of my dearest friends and an immensely loyal man, whom I remember with genuine fondness.
As a railroad worker, he had to do a lot of standing which may explain why he would have a problem with his feet. I remember that back then he would always wear black tennis shoes.
He was also a very agressive promoter of the United Nations. Irv would buy copies of the UN charter, at his own expense and dstribute them freely. This was one of his ways of promoting the UN.
Happy birthday to a very special man.
New York City and Dance Home
I love you Irv.
Irv and I often met for lunch to talk story, even after he moved to Pasadena, taking two subways and a bus to come to Santa Monica. I loved my time with this compassionate and wise elder. We met at Dance Home in the early 80’s. When I wanted to visit the United Nations for International Women’s Day, in the mid-90's, we planned a trip to New York City, along with my boyfriend James. Eating lunch in the Delegate’s Dining Room, attending plenary sessions in the General Assembly with a thousand fired-up women, and getting my first taste of the sights of New York with a native son were highlights. Irv, you are loved and missed.

Thanksgiving.
We just elected a new President (he who shall not be named) and 'celebrated' the first Thanksgiving without grandpa Irv making the stuffing -- 2016 really has turned out to be a year of sadness and disappointments.
Thanksgiving was the one holiday that I think my dad most enjoyed (oh and United Nations Day), always taking charge of making the stuffing. Mrs. Cubbison's, sauteed onions and finely chopped celery, butter, raisins and orange juice as the liquid. Combining dad's stuffing, with Sascha's sauces, mom's sweet potatoes with marshmallows, and Nathan's ham and turkey, made Thanksgiving perhaps the one true Sarnoff family tradition -- well that and the love of a good conspiracy theory.
Anyway, we will keep making stuffing for years to come and always think of Grandpa when we do.
