Ivy's younger years

July 17, 2014

In 1963 Ivy had the great fortune of meeting a handsome young man, Michael V. warsinski. It seems like such a cliche story, but I love it. It represents the time and place. Ivy worked at the local Dairy Queen and Michael worked at the local Burger Chef. How cute, He made dinner, and she brought the dessert...
In 1963 Michael proposed to my mother. My father had just joined the United States Airforce and on August 24th, 1964 Mike and Ivy became one and were married in San Antonio Tx. Their love would span over 50 years.  After they were married they moved to Saracuse, NY. My father was training in Russian and while stationed in NY my mother gave birth to her only son Todd Patrick warsinski, On Febuary 22nd, 1964. After My father was finished with his AIT training he was stationed in Berlin Germany. My mother, at such a young age of 18, moved to a country in which she did not speak the language. However, with her personality and kindness, she fit right in. While in Germany Ivy gave birth to her only daughter Amy Christine Warsinski. While Michael spent his days and a lot of nights at Tempeloff base, Ivy enjoyed exploring Germany with her two little children. In 1967 the family finally moved back states side to Port Huron, MI.  Thus a new chapter, after military life began...

The early years

July 17, 2014

Ivy, was born in Cleveland Ohio, in 1945. Her mother Florence, while being a nurse, Contracted TB. Florence was not allowed to be arround Ivy as back then they did not know how to take the appropriate precautions when around others. There is only 2 known pictures of Ivy with her mother holding her. Ivy's mother died when Ivy was only 2 years old. After her mom passed away she lived with her Father Herbert Mcculloch at her Grandmother's (Julia and Frank Novak's) home. Ivy spent her early years in Cleveland. When Ivy  was 10years old her father suddenly passed away. Ivy continued to live with her grandparents. Unfortunately Frank Passed away suddenly 2 years after she lost her father. At that point Ivy and her grandmother moved from Cleveland to Port Huron Michigan to be near her Uncle Walter Novak, who was a well know Gynocologist. While in Port Huron Ivy  attended Garfield elementry/Junior High and then attended St. Stephens High School, where she graduated with honors. Just a note: while Ivy attended St. Stephens, she was part of a group who participated in raising funds for the handicapped and mentally impaired individuals. On the weekends she woulld travel a hour to the home for children, and volunteer her time tutoring and helping the individuals that were living in the home. Our family is proud to know that at such a young age, Ivy cared so deeply about helping others. After losing her mother, father and grandfather at such a young age, she still had such a want and need to help others....
