His Life

About Joe (My Daddy), by: Laura Criss

July 27, 2016

Joe Neil Donaldson was born on 02/17/1943, in Wichita, KS. He went to Heaven, on 01/15/2014, in Amarillo, TX. (Betty, Lisa, and I, were with him, at the Hospice Center, when he passed away, peacefully.)

There was a service held at Arden Road Baptist Church, on 01/17/2014, with both his Pastor, Dale Bigham, and his son-in-law, Rev. Gary Brown, officiating. - I want to say a special "Thank you," to both Pastor Dale and Rev. Gary, for such an awesome service. Also, to Betty, for the songs that you picked out. They were all beautiful! - The service was beautiful, with Pastor Dale, and Rev. Gary, taking turns saying things about daddy's life, and the beautiful musical selections that Betty had chosen, including, "Daddy's Hands," which she selected to be played for me and Lisa (thank you, again, Betty). Daddy's body was buried in Llano Cemetary, following the service. Arrangements werew made by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St., Amarillo, TX (thank you, also).

Daddy served in the Air Force for four years. He served in Turkey and the Philippines. He loved collecting stamps; his passion was collecting baseball cards. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service from 1966 to 1998 in Omaha and then in Amarillo. Daddy loved the Lord and his family. He is missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jeff Donaldson; a daughter, Linda Donaldson; two sisters, Phyllis Dragon and Marilyn Adams; and a brother, Richard Donaldson.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Betty; three daughters, Laura Criss (me), and Lisa [Donaldson] Byrd, and husband, James Byrd (who became married after daddy's passing), both of Amarillo, and Julia Brown and husband, Rev. Gary Brown, of Jonesboro, AR; a son, David Barrett and wife Lois Barrett, of Burtonsville, Md; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
