Remembering Johanna Poppy Stanton
The Gospel describes St Joanna as a dedicated, kind and generous follower of Jesus who on Easter morn brought spices to Jesus’ tomb. She was was one of the first to understand the meaning of the Resurrection. Our dear Johanna shared this same love and dedication. Poppy was an inspiration to all. She worked tirelessly in her care for her family. She never lost her sense of her mission in life...to serve God and her neighbors. She never stopped working, no job was too hard for her. She took great pride in serving others by cleaning, by caring, by baking (her special cake), by sewing, by writing cards. She loved her plants and had a special love for her animals, her birds, and mostly her dogs. Poppy showed us the joy of simple living. Her only vice that I know of is buying a weekly lottery ticket. Dear Poppy, we miss you and we pray that the angels have taken you home. We are sad to be sure but we will remember you in some way every day. You taught us how to live a simple, happy life in a complex world. May God Bless you and keep you always!

I would like to thank my nephew, Chuck, for creating this website in honor of my Mom. It is so touching to read all the beautiful comments and feelings that so many relatives and friends have about my sweet Mom. I cannot believe that she is no more. She was so much more than a Mom to me but also a friend, confidant and gave me so much good advice all the time. She had such a great sense of humor and was so much fun to be with. I miss my Mom, my friend ❤️So much.

Aunt Poppy was my friend Ineka’s best friend. Whatever I knew about
her, was from pictures Ineka posted on our group...but they were enough to feel the love that emanated from her eyes. This legacy of love she leaves behind will be carried on I know by Jenny and Ineka,
and hopefully we too will learn to nurture our family and friends the way Aunt Poppy did, and to love and live life with the enthusiasm that she did.

I will always remember Tante Jo as a kind, caring woman with a beautiful soul. She (and her daughters - Ineke and Jennifer too) was always there for my mom, Betteke Croes, calling her everyday just because. She will be missed.

This ends the journey of a beautiful mother and friend. She was the Heart of the Family, no one escaped her. Her love and smile was so captivating that very soon you were a victim of her motherly love. She was an extremely good human being. She was a source of inspiration and love for all of us. She was a living example of unconditional love. She cannot be replaced, we will miss her a lot. May her loving legacy remain with us forever. She was a very loving friend of my mother. I am so blessed that I was able to spent some quality loving time with her in January 2017, when she stayed with me in Austin. There is so much I can write about her.
Our deepest condolence to the whole family especially Jennifer and Ineka. We are very sure that she has gone to her eternal arbor to Rest in Peace with Our loving Father Jesus Christ, whose love she exemplified throughout her earthly life. She lived a beautiful life. May her Soul Rest in Peace.

They do say, it takes just one person to change the world, this holds true especially in Auntie Poppy's case. When I was young, I used to see her greetings at every special occasion, I did not quite know her then, but would look forward to her card anyway. I was fortunate to move to her land, and get to know her better, and talk to her, and meet her. Everytime we talked, I learned something new. She was a selfless soul who made a difference in our family. This was the first year she missed sending a card for my birthday but followed up with a quick call despite her illness. It breaks my heart to think this was the last time. But she is in a better place. The family may never be able to fill this gap her absence has created, she taught us to put family first, just by being herself. Rest in Peace auntie Poppy.

From my childhood till now you have been the closest and most important part of our family. You’ve always been the first one with whom we could share our happiness and sorrows. I have such fond memories of you and uncle Patrick. My kids have known you since the time they were born though they got to meet you late in life. I feel honored that you came all the way to bless Martin and my wedding celebrations. My German family loves you a lot too. I feel so honored that you made the effort whenever we were in USA whether Fortwayne or Rochester or Austin. There’s never been a time that you didn’t meet us in India whenever you were there. My Mom can’t hold her tears thinking that you’ve gone. You’ve been a beautiful, loving and caring person. I so much learnt from you. You were always there to guide us. I thank God for granting you a long and healthy life so we could get close to Jenny and Ineka. Since the last 3 months your messages and phone calls became scant to we would get used to not hearing from you regularly. You’ve been so thoughtful that you even took time to prepare us to live a life without you. There is no doubt you are in heaven and blessing us from up above. You will be missed immensely aunty. We love you forever.
