CRUSIN'

April 20, 2014

SOME OF MY FONDEST MEMORIES BIG BROTHER WERE OF THE TIMES YOU TOOK ME CRUSIN'.  WE WOULD BE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET, LISTENING TO THE MUSIC AND OR TALKING. SUDDENLY YOU WOULD YELL "DUCK!" AS IT TURNED OUT, THERE WOULD BE A PRETTY GIRL IN YOUR SIGHTS. EVERYONE KNOWS YOU CANT BE CAUGHT WITH YOUR SISTER IN YOUR CAR WHILE YOUR CRUSIN'   LMAO!  MY BIG BROTHER, WE SHARED GOOD TIMES AND BAD TIMES...WE FOUGHT, WE GOT ALONG. WE LOVED AND WE HATED ONE ANOTHER. AS IT TURNED OUT, TIME SHOWED US THAT WE WERE ALSO BEST FRIENDS, CLOSE FRIENDS, LOVING FRIENDS. AS WERE ALL OF US SIBLINGS. THANK YOU FOR BEING MY FRIEND. I WILL LOVE YOU ALWAYS, AND MISS YOU EVEN LONGER.   JACKIE

From Scott Brokaw   I heard this morning that an old Army buddy, John Koppenhaver, passed away last weekend. We were stationed together in Hawaii in the late 80s/early 90s. Those were some really great times, and John was one of the people I always enjoyed being around. Rest in peace, brother. You will be missed.

From Scott Howie

To John's friends and family...my deepest condolences. John and I spent quite a bit of time together over the last year. I last saw him on Saturday March 15th; we met at my storage unit so he could grab some clothes for a new job he was slated to start on Monday.

Cannery

"Empty Cans" this is the warehouse where John and i worked the first summer out of high school - I drove the fork lift and your dad was the fork lift mechanic (i was always finding something wrong with my forklift so i could go see your dad) your grandpa got us the job at the cannery.

I looked through my photo's and i can't tell you how many there are where John is either sitting (or standing) next to me as the photo was taken , but in true teenager fashion we thought what we was doing (or seeing) was more important than who we was with. I did find this one and I do remember why i took it. It must of been 1980 and John and i was living together when this storm came through and the sidewalk needed to be scooped. I don't remember if we flipped a coin or did rock, paper, scissors but john lost and was not to happy about it. I took this picture from the comfort of the living room with him glaring at me from the front porch.

Nicole Kulikoff Story

I met John when I was about 13 or so, we used to volunteer at my moms job. He stayed with us for a minute and while he was there, I gathered a decent amount of stories. Lol, like the time he let me dye his hair blonde, ( big mistake ) and when he went to rinse it in the tub, he slipped and broke our toilet. We called him a candle or Martha Stewart for days with that hair. We'd all get bored and roll up old magazines, then sword fight with them, or beat each other, which I think is how we ended up calling him Martha actually, the hair just didn't help. He tried teaching me whichever Chinese he knew for like, a day, Lol, I gave up quick. I remember I said something about wanting my tongue pierced, he told me about how Ramen noodles get wrapped around them and when you swallow, you can choke on them, so I decided against it. John told my friends and I, a lot about Troy, ( a couple embarrassing kid stories he made me promise I wouldn't tell, sorry guys ) and his girls, Nancy and just so many stories about what he did over his life. I could probably go on forever, but I'll keep it short. Bottom line, I really enjoyed having John be apart of my life, he made such a big impact and he was an amazing person. Anyone who talked to him for any period of time knows how much he loves his kids. My family and I wish you all the best through this.
