Mr. John P. Norman Sr., 87-year-old resident of West Point, died Sunday, June 5, 2011 at
George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley. Mr. Norman was born Tuesday, Feb. 26,
1924 in Greenville, Ga., the son of the late Frank P. and Ruth Pinkston Norman.
He was a graduate of Columbus High School and Emory University with a degree in
economics. Mr. Norman served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a staff sergeant.
He was personnel director of the Lanett Bleachery and Dye Works for 10 years before
leaving to work as a salesman for Holt and Associates, a textile company of which he
was part owner.
Mr. Norman was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Pharr Norman; and his step son,
Robert L. Henry. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and William G.
Solomon of Macon, Ga.; his son, John P. Norman Jr. of Pigeon Forge, Tenn.; and his son
and daughter-in-law, Frank and Donna Norman of Lanett; seven grandchildren; and one
great-grandchild. The family of Mr. Norman will greet friends Wednesday, June 8 from 5
until 7 p.m. at McCarthy Funeral Home in West Point. A memorial service will be held
Thursday, June 9 at 2 p.m. from the Church of the Resurrection with the Rev. Douglas K.
Crossman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church of the
