Her Life
October 16, 2015

Julie was the oldest child of two born to Sheron and Robert Weissman.  Her first 7 years were spent in the Los Angeles area but then the family re-located to Concord, California.  She attended Clayton Valley High School, then went to Diablo Valley City College before finally transferring to Cal State Northridge.  She had her BA in Speech Communication and later worked for a telephone company.  Her career however took a backseat once she became a mother.  She married her high school sweetheart in 1995 and her first child was born in 1998, a daughter and then two years later her son was born.

Her children became the focus of her life and she devoted her time to them.  However, she also devoted her time to reach out and touch any child that came into her sphere of influence.  When she discovered that her son had non-verbal autism, Julie became an advocate and began to learn everything she could about it.  Whatever she learned she generously passed along to other parents.  Julie became known to her friends as the "go-to" person for information.  It didn't matter what question you had, she'd tackle it until an answer could be found.

Julie had a special talent for fund raising (she was very good at begging) and with her efforts the College Park Band had several very successful auction fund raisers.  Julie always found time to help anyone in need and never once expected the favor to be returned.  She wasn't about keeping score cards, she was just a person who lived to serve others.

In March of 2012 Julie was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer.  At that point she took on a new battle, one that she would fight with courage and humor.  Anyone who knew her can attest to this.  For 3 1/2 years she never once complained while she went through the successive treatments.  She kept a positive attitude and proclaimed to everyone that she was going to beat the odds.  In many ways she did, but in the end the cancer won the battle.  In her spirit, please educate yourself and others about Metastatic Breast Cancer, you can go to www.mbcn.org and www.breastcancer.org to learn more.

Cancer may have won the battle but it can't win the war, that's what Julie would want you to know.
