A Mother's Love is...
by Helen Steiner Rice

A Mother's love is something
that no on can explain,
It is made of deep devotion
and of sacrifice and pain

It is endless and unselfish
and enduring come what may
For nothing can destroy it
or take that love away

It is patient and forgiving
when all others are forsaking,
And it never fails or falters
even though the heart is breaking

It believes beyond believing
when the world around condemns,
And it glows with all the beauty
of the rarest, brightest gems

It is far beyond defining,
it defies all explanation,
And it still remains a secret
like the mysteries of creation

A many splendor miracle
man cannot understand
And another wondrous evidence
of God's tender guiding hand.

Remembering Lynne and thinking of all of you.
With love, Annette

I had the good fortune to be the proving ground for a great mother-to-be. She started my (short-lived) acting career, introduced me to classical music and art, gave me wonderful advice, encouragement and a positive approach to the world. She then went on to do the same and more for friends and a loving family by including my wife Laila.

Words are a feeble means of expressing how deeply she impressed and motivated all those around her since she is an indescribable force of nature as well as a wonderful human being.

Long may her influence continue!

There are few people in the world who can unite such a rowdy bunch like ours. Nana not only brought us together, but she made us make sense even when we didn't. Outside of Christmas gatherings or long weekends at Silver Lake, we were disparate paths heading into distant worlds. Before Nana's smile, at Nana's long dinner table, while opening gifts under Nana's sparkling Christmas tree, we were family. We are family because Nana gave us that gift. That first and most important gift. I can only hope that we made good on that gift through lives lived with kindness, gratitude, and kringle. We love and miss you!

I thought of you today,
but that is nothing new

I thought about you yesterday
and days before that too

I think of you in silence
I often speak your name

All I have are memories and
your pictures in a frame

Your memory's a keepsake
from which I'll never part

God now has you in His arms
I have you in my heart

I thank you for allowing me
to join your family

I pray now that you'll rest in peace
for all eternity

From Julie Spieker ... Some of my fondest memories at the lake include fun activities with the box of amazing shoes she always brought for us girls when we were little. We were in high style as we walked off the dock into the lake for hours on end. She is in good hands and in good company, but my heart breaks for you.

Throughout our lives our Dad and Mom encouraged us to do something kind for others and leave the world a better place. Mom would always light candles for people she loved. Today I light a candle honoring the life and legacy of your Mom, grandmother, and friend. Lynne was truly a renaissance woman, who loved deeply and lived elegantly.  I will always remember of her grace and style and love of tradition.  Her unconditional generosity and love for her family and grandchildren. She told me she loved to spoil the grandkids and loved watching them open their gifts on special occasions. We talked about how much she loved all of you and was so proud of your accomplishments. I loved her smile and the way her eyes would light up when she would talk about all of you. She never forgot to send me a card for my birthday. She was so thoughtful. She was loving, caring and encouraged me to follow my dreams. I miss her and I'm grateful that I had the honor of knowing her and spending time with your family. Thank you for the memories.  She was a good friend. I loved her and I miss her very much.

Beatitudes for the New Wilderness:

Blessed are those who attend to the inner solitude of their soul,
For they shall know God.

Blessed are those who confess their pain and brokenness,
For they shall take hold of their healing.

Blessed are those who connect to all things and refuse separation,
For they shall become one with God.

Blessed are those who wrestle with their own darkness,
For they shall touch again the light from which they came.

Blessed are those who wait upon God,
For they shall renew their strength and deepen their faith.

Blessed are those who give compassion to the world,
For they shall burst the bonds of suffering and death.

Blessed are those who realize they have been created by love for love,
For they shall live in love all the days of their lives.

Blessed are those who rejoice at all times and circumstances knowing that God is in everything with eternal joy,
Through them the seed of love will eternally be resown and they shall stand in the kingdom, awakening the universe with their smile.

We are always safe,
it's only change.
From the moment we are born
we are preparing to be embraced by the Light.
Once more...
position yourself for maximum Peace.

Angels surround you
and are guiding you each step of the way.
Whatever you choose will be perfect for you.
Everything will happen in
the perfect time-space sequence.
This is a time for joy
and for rejoicing.
You are on your way Home
as we all are.

Magic

This portrait of my sister, by Sara Svetich, encapsulates my memories of her. Always able to find something to smile about, whatever the situation, she was an inspiration to me and many others. That will live on.

The ballerina

May 19, 2022
I don't know if my big sister actually became at least a part time ballerina but I do remember being fascinated by her ballet shoes when I was about nine or ten. They were toe shoes, with a hard, flat end like work boots. The toes had cotton stuffed in the inside ends with blood stains on them. This horrified me until Meems explained to me that the pressure from standing on her tiptoes sometimes caused her big toes to bleed. "No pain, no gain," she explained. "When you see a ballerina standing on her toes, looking awesome, that may be what she is paying for it."

She had a certain amount of pain in her life but always looked awesome.
