Michael's Life!

June 15, 2012

My name is Michael James Rehrer Jr. I was born in Abington Memorial Hospital on February 2, 2006 My mom had an emergency Caesarean section, or C-Section, with me. I was premature at 33 weeks. I weighed 3lbs. 2ozs. I was operated on within being 12 hours old becacuse parts of my small bowel was dead. I have a disease called Short Gut Syndrome. I received a colostomy. My mommy got to go home after her stay in the hospital but I could not leave. I had trouble with my feeds and gaining weight so I was placed on Total Parenteral Nutrition, or TPN. The TPN makes me Jaundice. I have alot of problems that the doctors are still trying to help me overcome. When I was 6 weeks old I went back into surgery to have my intestines reconnected. It did not last long, at 7 weeks old (exactly 1 week 1 day later), I went back into the operating room to be unconnected because my stitches came undone and my feces was inside of me making me sick. At 2 1/2 months old I was transferred to the Children''s Hospital Of Philadelphia, usually just called CHOP, where I am still living at. I am still having problems with my feeds and weight gain among other things. I have a lot of good days but I have more bad ones. In August 2006, I went back into the operating room to be reconnected. This time my intestines stayed together, but I am still having problems with my small bowel. It is not working well. My mom and I flew to Pittsburgh in November 2006, because I needed to get evaluated for a small bowel and liver transplant. The TPN I am on for my food and nutrition is killing my liver. I am now on the waiting list for a small bowel, liver and pancreas trasnsplant. When my mommy and daddy get the call we have to leave immediately! My mommy and daddy will live in Pittsburgh with me for 6 months to a year because I will not be able to leave Pittsburgh!. I am bleeding internally, and I do not not have much time left! I am getting to go home and spend my last few hours, days, or hopefully a week with my family! I would like to thank everyone who ever looked at my website and read my story! My family is not giving up HOPE or FAITH that we will get our Chrismas MIRACLE! God Bless Everyone and I will be watching over all of you from HEAVEN! I also would like to THANK all the DOCTORS, NURSES and EVERYONE who took care of me in one way or another, from prenatal, my birth and after I was born! All of you were a very big and important part the life! MY MOMMY AND DADDY SAYS THANK YOU ALSO FOR TAKING SUCH GREAT CARE OF ME!.........***** Ok, I know this is confusing for everyone but I am still here! I went home for 24 hours and my parents found out that I was I was off of the transplant list and they put me back into the hospital ASAP!!!!! I am back on the transplant list! I still have a chance of making it! When my parents brought me home they knew I was going to pass, but they were still praying for a miracle, in that short time, I would get called for my transplant! Doug Shimel from Channel 10 News did a story on me and my parents, he found out I was off the Transplant List! Of course everything changed. My parents want to make sure I get every chance to survive. In a way we did get a MIRACLE, I am still here. I might not be at home with my family but I am still ALIVE! I still might not make it if organs do not come soon for me, but I know and my parents know they did everything they could for me without giving up!!! I know my parents will not give up on me. Please keep praying for us! We need our Miracle of organs to be donated so I can some day go home with my family and grow up and have a life! On Thursday, 4/5/07 at 6:30am, my parents received THE CALL. It was very exciting! My parents thought their prayers were answered. My mom and I flew to Pittsburgh. Then we took a helicopter to CHP. When I arrived the nightmare began. I could not get the transplant that I so dearly need. I will not survive without a transplant. CHOP had my vent settings way too high. The Doctors thought I had lung disease. They felt with my settings so high that I would not survive the operation. Also because of the vent settings they thought I would have to come off the transplant list. Thank God, that is not what happened! Within 12 hours I was transplant ready! The Doctors got my vent settings where they needed to be. I will not be going back to CHOP! I will be staying in Pittsburgh until I either get my 2nd chance at my transplant or until I pass away! !....*** My fight for life has finally come to an end on Saturday, 6/23/07 at 4:15pm. My Mommy, Daddy and Grandmom was with me! I passed away in PEACE in my Mommy's Arms! Think Of Me As Your Guardian Angel! I will not say "Goodbye" but I will say "See You Again Some Day"! Think of my being Happy, Running and Playing in Heaven where I will never Hurt again! Thank You To Everyone Who Prayed For Me, Read My Story, My Journal And Signed My Guestbook! With All My Love, Michael James Rehrer Jr.!
