Michael Wayne Alford, 42, a longtime resident of Granville County passed away Sunday, April 5, 2015 at Duke University Medical Center.

A native of Durham County, the son of Michael and Merle Blackley Alford. He attended Banks United Methodist Church and was employed by Granville County Schools.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Banks United Methodist Church by Rev. Gina Miller. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Penny Howell Alford , a son, Collin Michael Alford both of the home, his parents Mike and Merle Alford of Wilton, a sister, Dawn A. Gooch (Eddie), a nephew, Rusty Gooch, all of Wilton, grandmothers, Mae Blackley of Wilton, and Elaine Alford of Durham.

Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to Banks United Methodist Church, ”Fellowship Hall”, 2632 NC 96 , Franklinton, NC 27525.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening, April 7, 2015 at the Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor from 6:00-8:00 PM and at other times at the home .

"Living in California, I am unable to physically attend Wayne's memorial service, but today I mourn  the loss of this quite, humble young man who showed such strength and courage in his battle against leukemia, My heart aches for my cousin Mike and his wife Merle for I think losing a child is one of life's greatest sorrow, and I understand the pain they are in. I hold Penny and Collin in thought and prayer, and also pray for solace for Dawn, all my Alford family, and everyone that called Wayne beloved. He will be missed and remembered."
