Mike's & Jen's Meeting

October 24, 2014

It was February 25, 2005 Mike attended a valentine's dinner at the National Guard Armory in Brownsville, TN.  Mike was there as a monitor and as one of the NCO's of the unit to support the family readiness group.  I, Jennifer went as the guest of another NCO Bobby Barton.  There was a group of us sitting at the table which included Bobby Barton, Jennifer, Mike Paul Castille and his wife and Margert Springer.  The group was mostly talking about their lastest tour to Iraq but I was bored to death.  Mike kept aggravating me and trying to steer the conversation away from the deployment.  I was sitting there happily playing with candles and pouring the melted wax into the ashtrays.  Later that night Bobby, Margert, Mike and I all left and went to a country western bar.  Mike and I played a game of pool and the bet was the loser had to take the winner out to dinner, but Mike being a man and usually a better pool player I made him play left handed.  Of course I won that game so that guaranteed a date with him.  But later that night Mike and I went to eat breakfast at a local Huddle House and talked until 8 the next morning.  Mike told me that for the past 2 weeks everytime he would look at his ashtray and see the candle wax he would think of me and seeing me that night, then he would cuss because the candle wax would get on his cigarettes but it took him 2 weeks before he would clean his ashtray.  We always laugh about our meeting and how Bobby Barton was the one who brought us together.  From the night we met we have always managed to talk to each other everyday even if it's only for 5 minutes even during times of natural disaster and deployments.
