His Life

Mr. Larry D. Zachery was born March 24, 1952 to the late Earnest Zachery and the late Ruby Pearl Carlisle in Five Points, AL. Larry accepted Christ as his personal Savior in 1958 and joined Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church under the Leadership of Reverend E. R. Dunson. He devoted his life to Christ and remained a financial supporter of Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church throughout his life.

Larry graduated from Turner High School of Atlanta, Georgia in 1970. After graduation, he attended Radio Broadcasting School in Atlanta. He enjoyed a career in Radio Broadcasting for 42 years and worked for Radio Stations WIGO, V103, WQXI and WSB 98.5. He was known throughout the city of Atlanta as “Night Train Lane”, “Larry Darnell” and “Larry Lane”. He also did Public Service Announcements. Mr. Zachery was the inspiration for the character “Venus the Fly Trap” on the TV Series WKRP in Cincinnati debuting in 1978 and running until 1982 with Actor Tim Reed. Larry volunteered his services with the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and coached Little League Baseball.

Larry was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Sam and Carrie Avery Carlisle and his paternal grandparents. Mr. Larry D. Zachery entered eternal rest on Monday, September 22, 2014 at Emory St. Joseph Hospital in Atlanta, GA.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: one brother, Boris Burch, Atlanta, GA; one sister, Veronica Burch Young, Lanett, AL; one aunt, Maurine Carlisle Jackson, Five Points, AL; one uncle, Derrick (Sara) Carlisle, Sr., Five Points, AL; great-aunt, Mary Griffin, Chattanooga, TN; nephew, Kwan Burrell; nieces, Diamond Burch, Kezia Burch, Emerald Young and Tiffany Lewis; great-nieces, MaKenzie Dantzler, Yanika Burch and Mariah Lewis; and, a host of other loving relatives and friends who brought continuous joy to his life.
