Racing to Mary's House in the old Caddy

January 11, 2015

Mr. Moreland had this old Cadillac that he allowed Nancy to drive around the "farm" we called it.  it was a property in Oildale near the railroad tracks where they lived.  Nancy learned fast, and she drove fast.  She figure out how to get to Mary's house taking the back roads in about 5 minutes.  So one Saturday afternoon she grabbed the keys to the old Caddy and headed to Mary's house with an armful of Vinyl record Albums so we could listen to records, dance, sing, and drink Pepsi Cola while our hair dried in those gigantic "Magnetic" rollers or frozen orange juice cans that the girls used back int he day.

The only problem was, Nancy was 13 years old!  We were in the 8th grade, and no one let their kids drive at that age, unless they were on the farm.

Nancy had the fortunate luck to always be the one to get caught.  She was so energetic her energy would attract a stone off its perch and of course she attracted a Sheriff.  But being the vivacious, energetic, beautiful you girl she was, she talked herself out of that one too.

We laughed for hours the last visit, when she came to stay with me in California two years ag.  Colene, Nancy and Mary told story after story like this one.

If you have a story to tell, please share.  This site is full of so much of her.

And don't forget you can post pictures on it yourself.
