His Life

Irish Patriot, American Super hero Grandpa and Dad

January 30, 2015

Peter was born in Dublin Ireland in 1936, the proud son of Stephen and Annie McInerney.  Peter's father Stephen served as the personal bodyguard of one of the first presidents of the new Independent Ireland.  His dad was a tall, commanding presence in Dublin at 6'4", stoic, loyal with strong moral character.  Peter inherited these wonderful character traits with an added dose of wit, charm and handsome good looks.  As a young boy, he and his sister Maura could be seen running the halls of Dublin castle, smartly dressed and full of joy.  His childhood years were spent playing piano, playing football (soccer) with the Irelands best, and enjoying the many gifts of Ireland and family.  He later attended Trinity college but then decided it was time for him to go off and create his own castle and family in America.  He left with a piece of Ireland and his family close in his heart.  He traveled straight across America to his new home in San Francisco... a beautiful city by the bay that reminded him of home.
He went to San Francisco with a scolarship to USF for chemistry which allowed him to play on their soccer team, bringing a bit of star quality from Ireland's national team.   He came to America with the idea of becoming a priest.  However, within a few days of being exposed to the vibrant, exciting  San Francisco of the 1950's, this plan lasted less than a day.  Within 10 years of arriving in San Francisco, Dad had a wife, a great house in San Francisco, and 4 crazy knuckledheads to support.  He worked two jobs for a long while to make ends meet before earning promotions from draftsman to head of Sales to Vice President and General Manager.
