Hard to believe it's been 4 years.

September 15, 2019
I got the email reminder letting me know that today was 4 years to the day we lost Phil.  Still find it hard to believe he's gone.  He was in our lives for a short time but we became close friends quickly.

I was BBQ'ing for people the other night and it reminded me of the first time I cooked for Phil.  I remember saying to Nancy, "wait a minute, I'm gonna cook dinner for Phil?  A seriously accomplished chef.  No way I can live up to his standards."  I remember him loving everything from the grilled swordfish to salmon and all the sides.  Phillip was a chef in a league of his own and yet he could appreciate the "comfort food" of a BBQ.

Used to enjoy sharing a scotch with him by the fire pit with some good music on and just talking about anything for hours.  He talked often of how proud he was of Palmer and how lucky he was to have Michael in his life.  My heart goes out to both of them and the rest of his family.

Miss you my friend.  RIP.

I saw a sign "steamers and beer" today and thought of Philip.  We enjoyed many clambakes with Philip.  We all chipped in, my Dad would dig the clams, Kelly and Micheal with special creative recipes.  Philip gave me his secret Sangria recipe.  We would all relax a little when we knew Philip was in charge.

Miss you bro-in-law.

Blown Away!!!

Chef Philip's Treat for Girl's Night

September 22, 2015

Michael, an ever gracious host, created a warm and inviting girls night dinner for a group of us.  A sparkling table was prepared, beautifully candle lit, decorated with flowers that highlighted Michael's talent and expertise for floral design.  As we were enjoying champagne and a bountiful selection of cheeses, meats, olives and other wonderful appetizers and caught up, Philip arrived with the most beautiful thick steaks from Masa as the main course.  I was very touched by his generousity and support for his lovely wife's evening, and it was so sweet how he made such an effort for all of us to enjoy ourselves with this special treat fresh from his kitchen. We all had a wonderful time listening to music and enjoying the delicious food.

Palmer, your Daddy was a gracious gentleman, and knew how to make friends feel warm and appreciated.  Michael, your husband's adoration for you was as bright as the most starry night.  I will remember this evening with gratitude for the opportunity to experience Philip's cuisine, friendship and generosity.

Pats vs Bills

September 21, 2015

When I heard the Pats were playing the Bills yesterday, I thought of Philip.   Years ago Philip asked my husband Doug to the home Pats/Bills game.  He wanted his brother-in-law to be the token 'Bills' fan.  I think he even asked him to wear a Bills shirt.   They had a blast at the game, tailgating and cigars...   When I asked Phil what can Doug bring to the game, he asked if I could make Mac and Cheese. That made my day (an accomplished Chef asking for one of my dishes).

Cooking My First Dinner fo Philip

September 21, 2015

I remember cooking my first meal for Philip and my sister Michael.   I had a little anxiety cooking for a well accomplished Chef.  After Philip finished his first plate, he went for seconds.  That made the whole event a success in my eyes.   Over the years I saw Philip do the same at other homes and at other meals.  He was the type that would not automatically take over, but as soon as you asked him for a little help, he rolled up his sleeves and jumped right in.   This is what Philip did with everything and he did it with love and graciousness.

Phil conquered the Vineyard!

September 20, 2015

This picture was taken at Oak Bluffs Aug 22, 2013.  It was after one of the best cycling days Phil ever had.  We put our bikes on a friend's boat in N. Falmouth and went over to Martha's Vineyard to ride.  We did over 50 miles on the island that day and Phil was really proud and happy as he worked really hard to ride at a very high level.  He was able to stick with the group all day and really earned the respect of everyone.  Phil worked really hard at his cycling and went from "wow, I'm not gonna be able to hang with you guys" to "this is awesome, I can't believe I did that!" in a very short time.

This photo shows Phil getting back onto the launch in Oak Bluffs at the end of our day heading back to the boat moored in the harbor for our ride back home to North Falmouth.  To me this picture shows how proud and happy Phil was that day of what he achieved.
