His Life
March 8, 2016

Mr. Harper was born in Waco, Georgia on August, 1, 1922, the son of the late Florence Smith Harper and Will Harper. As a young man he served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II. After the war he returned to Georgia where he became a cattle farmer. When his children came along he became a truck driver for the Motor Convoy Company in Hapeville, Georigia. After his retirement he reverted back to his love of farming. He grew wonderful vegetable gardens, and was locally famous for his special home developed concoction, that when applied to his watermelon patch produced champion melons. He was very generous, and shared his prized vegetables and fruits with many in both Heard and Carroll Counties. The recipients of his gifts were very grateful, but what they were really thrilled by, was the time spent with this delightful man! His quick wit could charm anyone, be they old or young. His love of life, and loving spirit could brighten even the worst of times. Throughout his adult life he was a faithful member of the Glenloch Baptist Church. His deep devotion to his family, coupled with his tremendous work ethic, and love for God served his children and grandchildren as a fine example of what their lives should be. He will be missed by all who had the joy of knowing him.

He is survived by two sons and daughters in-law, Terry and Marsha Harper of Roopville, GA., and Barry and Kaye Harper of Carrollton, GA. one sister-in-law, Evelyn Mock of Roanoke, AL.; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeanette Robinson Harper; one sister, Minnie Howard; and five brothers, Luther Harper, Dalton Harper, Merlin Harper, Bob Harper, and Charlie Harper.
