Stephen Carter Frederick, Ph.D.

      

Dr. Stephen C. Frederick, 71, passed away on May 28, 2013 in The Villages, FL. He was the son of the late Ralph C. and Marietta (MacKechnie) Frederick, born on April 22, 1942 in Port Jervis, NY.  He graduated from Port Jervis High School in 1960 and earned a B.A. degree from Hamilton College in 1964; a master’s degree from Princeton Theological Seminary; and a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies from Duke University in 1975.

Steve pursued many careers in his lifetime.  He served as a minister in Montague, NJ and Dover, DE.  He was an insurance agent, a gemologist, an Adjunct Professor of English courses at Wilmington University (Dover, DE), and for the majority of his working life was employed as a Technical Writer and Strategic Planner with the State of Delaware in the Office of Information Services and the Dept. of Children and Family Services until his retirement in April 2005.

He was an accomplished pianist, avid reader, enjoyed golfing, kayaking, bowling, and a variety of scholarly pursuits.  His study of Buddhism was an important part of his spiritual and intellectual life since 2000, culminating in the writing of a personal prayer book.

Steve, who will be greatly missed by his family and many friends, is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lucille Wong Frederick of The Villages, FL; daughter, Aimee Jane Frederick and her partner, Greg Montagnino, of Point Arena, CA; daughter, Cecily Frederick and son-in-law, Steven Glinberg, of Madison, WI; four grandchildren: Adalaide Hawk and Grant Frederick Montagnino, Mara Joy and Anabelle Claire Glinberg; stepson, Steven Montgomery and wife, Mary, of Lomita, CA; sister and brother-in-law, Suzanne and Richard Iovino of Harbeson, DE; sister, Jeannette Whipp of Fall River, MA; brothers-in-law: Dr. Richard Wong and wife, Leslie, of Portland, OR and Michael Wang and wife, Lisa, of Corta Madera, CA; an aunt, Francis MacKechnie Harris of Mesa, AZ; nieces and nephews; and many cousins.
