Tommie Hinton, 70, of Newnan, GA, died Saturday, July 23, 2011.
Tommie was born May 18, 1941 to the late John and Margaret Robinson Hinton.
Born and raised in Luthersville, Georgia where he joined Rocky Mount Baptist Church at an early age, Tommie later moved to Newnan, Georgia with his family where he attended Central High School. After graduation and entering adulthood, Tommie became the father of three sons and one daughter. Later marrying Clara Dennis Hinton, who preceded him in death two months prior. To this union one daughter was born and he gained two step sons.
Tommie better known as “Hawk” worked at the James River Company for thirty plus years. As an active member of the community, he has coached numerous softball teams, while never leaving his passion of basketball. He was the overseer of the Wesley Gym for many years where he mentored and nurtured young aspiring basketball players.
Preceding him in death: Parents, John and Margaret Hinton, brothers, Adolph (Mary) Amey, Horris “Dobbie” Hinton and daughter, Martha “Niecy” Powell.
Left to cherish his memory are sons, Stanley Hinton, Reginald Hinton, Tracy Hinton, Wesley Dollar and Harry “Rick” Dollar; one daughter, LaTonja Hinton; brothers, Rawlins (Helen) Hinton, Jimmy (Shan) Hinton, Josual (Kamilah) Hinton; sister, Shirley (William) Dodds; bother-in-law, L. M. Dennis; sister-in-law, Leah Dennis; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
