<p>  Wallace Edward Chin was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on September 7, 1924 to Henry Yen Chin and Alice Len Chin.  Growing up in Kaimuki, he attended public grade school.  His high school was at Hawaiian Mission Academy from which he graduated in 1942.</p> <p>  Coming to the mainland, he attended La Sierra College to study pre-med then attended the College of Medical Evangelists, now Loma Linda University Medical School.  During the World War II years the program was accelerated and in 1949 he graduated with an M.D. degree.</p> <p>  He returned to Hawaii to do his year of internship at Queens Hospital.  In 1950 he returned to the mainland and obtained further training in a three-year Family Practice Residency at Kern County Hospital in Bakersfield, CA.  During this time, my father was an ardent HAM Radio operator(His call sign, W6MDE) and developed a network of friendship with numerous HAM operators around the world.<br /><br />  Immediately following his residency, Dr. Chin served as a flight sergeon with USAF as well as the Strategic Air Command for two years. He was assigned to several air bases and one of them was Taegu Air Base in Korea during the Korean War. Dad had top clearance, and delivered top secret documents for General Macarthur during the  Korean war. Dad continued his missions and He was discharged from the Air Force with the rank of Captain.<br /><br />Next, he entered private practice with Dr. Muff in Camarillo, CA and after a few years, he married Peggy Yara of Honolulu, whom he met during his internship.  He then set up private practice in Covina, CA<br /> Mom  was dad's  office R.N. and they practiced together in California for 25 years.Due to increasing malpractice rates, Dad switched from general practice with pediatrics, ob, and gyn surgery to Emergency Medicine covering 3 hospitals in the San Gabriel Valley of California.</p> <p><br /> After 5 years in Emergency Room  in California, Dad moved to washington state . He wanted to build their dream home. The year was 1984. Dad  joined NEP in Washington. . The group contained 135 physicians covering Alaska, Washington and Oregon. Dad  was assigned the hospitals in Monroe and Arlington, the latter was dad's last permanent duty station when he offered his  resignation in 1990 to care for my mother who had a fatal illness.<br /><br />  Besides HAM Radio, his hobbies were gardening (Dad spent much time developing his vegetable garden from which he regularly supplied his household), he was a great bowler, playing the piano, fishing, and golfing.<br /><br />  In 1998  he went to live in Blaine, WA where his gardening skills came into powerful prominence. He delighted neighbors and friends with his produce almost year round.<br /><br />  In 2011, Dad stayed with Michelle and I and he continued gardening, Dad loved to garden and he specialized in cherry tomatoes. Recently, he moved to be with  my sister Naomi in Northern California.  While there in Yountville, he was hospitalized with a stroke and heart complications which he fought to the end.  He passed away peacefully Dec. 27 of last year with Naomi, Donney, Michelle and I all in the room and by his side.<br /><br />  He is survived by his sister, Carol, married to Dr. Claude Chan, his children StephenDonald Chin and wife Leslie, Naomi and Stephen Chin, whose wife is Michelle.   Wally’s two grand children, Lauren Smith and Dustin Smith are Naomi’s children<br /><br /><br /><br /></p>
