Camden- Walter Charles Ammann, 66 of State Rt. 69 passed away at his home on Friday May 28, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. Walt had courageously battled pancreatic cancer for the past seven months.

He was born June 1, 1943 in Oneida, NY the son of Dewey & Ida Meier Ammann. Walt grew up in Osceola, where he helped out on the family farm. He was a 1961 graduate of Camden High School. On Nov 4, 1961 he was united in marriage to Thelma Flagg at the United Presbyterian Church in Camden.

Walt retired from the Harden Furniture Co., in 2005 as supervisor and mechanic of the garage with forty years of service. He was employed for the last three years with the Town of Camden as caretaker for the Camden cemeteries until the time of his illness. During the 1970’s he also owned and operated an auto body shop from his home.

Walt was an active participant in the Camden Relay for Life for six years. He was also a member of the board as well as past president of the Camden Cemetery Assoc.,

Walt took a special joy in spending time with his family and friends. He will always be remembered for his love of gardening, both vegetables and plants, his outgoing personality and his willingness to always lend a hand helping hand to others.

Walt is survived by his loving wife and best friend of forty-eight years, Thelma, his children, Karen & Joseph Renwick, Diane Buehner Ammann, Mark & Katherine Ammann, all of Camden, Matthew Ammann of Marcellus, and Michael & Susan Ammann of Mt. Airy, NC, nine grandchildren, Diana, Megan, Sarah, Scott Ammann, Michael Scott and Mackenzie Ammann, Katie and Zach Ammann and Andrew Renwick. He is also survivied by a sister, Helen Littrell, Klamath Falls, OR and several nieces and nephews.

Walt was predeceased by two sons, Scott A. Ammann, Nov 19, 1989 and Walter C. ‘Chuck’ Ammann, Jr., March 12, 2008.
