My beautiful Aunt Wilva, you will always be missed. You (and Mom your sister) had those sweet lyrical voices when you laughed which you did often, about nothing, on the rare times you were together. I only saw you once every couple of years since I live in Canada and so it will take awhile before I realize that I wont see you again the next time I visit Teri and Uncle Bill. But you are in our hearts forever. So, 90 years being celebrated with all the critters passed on that you saved and loved for sure.....

Mrs. Rogers was the first teacher I met that day long ago Sept. 1967. She was my homeroom teacher and my English teacher that first year. She also took me under her wing and tried her very best to both educate me and help me prosper in life. What a wonderful person she was to know. She truly will be forever missed.

Some people's spirits are so large, so warm, that they absolutely pervade a place. That was the way it seemed when Wilva Rogers was at Shamrock H.S. Her values were so right--and by living them she taught me how to be a better teacher and to live a better life. She understood what matters in this world, and most of it isn't in books but instead is in the care and love that she so beautifully exemplified. The spell she cast has spread far beyond the halls of Shamrock and will long linger.

I have fond memories of Mrs. Rogers at Shamrock. I was in the first class to begin and graduate (1972) in the newly formed high school. She led us through those formative years with a special charm and ease as we carved new paths and traditions. Mrs. Rogers gave us the freedom to think outside the box and distinguish ourselves as individuals....but most of all, she made us laugh!
Sending prayers of peace to her family and a graceful rest to your beloved.

I remember Mrs. Rogers as a special teacher with a sparkle in her eyes, an amazing smile and an overflowing zest for life. Later I knew her as a second mother to my brother, John. That makes us sisters, Teri. I pray you are comforted by the outpouring of love in your mom’s honor. God bless you and your dad.

Shamrock graduate from 1973. Mrs. Rogers was my favorite teacher of all times. I still think back from time to time and remember her with great fondness. I also tell my grandchildren about my favorite teacher who inspired me and taught me a girl can do anything she sets her mind to.

My dear Mrs. Rogers,

Although I was at Shamrock for its first 3 years, I only knew you as Teri's mother and the teacher of so many of my friends. It is clear that you have influenced so many lives, and your daughter is evidence of the wonderful kind of mother you were, too.  You will be missed and remembered by many. Thank you for being the amazing woman you have been during this life!

Some people have a special gift for lifelong influence and Mrs. Rogers was just such a person to me. She was a great teacher and a great person and taught me so much. I am reminded of that Lulu song from the movie "To Sir With Love" that goes, 'how do you thank someone who has taken you from crayons to perfume?' May she rest in peace and love and I thank her from the bottom of my heart for her wisdom and generosity. Vickie Joiner Bausch, Shamrock, Class of 1970.

I am so thankful that we had such a special
role model at Shamrock High School. I can picture her sweet smile greeting us every morning standing in front of the main office as we arrived at school. She was the best! We are all so lucky to have had her in our lives. She will be missed. Prayers to her family ❤️❤️

What a great lady! I am so proud to have been associated with her. I always knew that she supported me and Shamrock. Wilva created the "We are Family" tradition at Shamrock and the faculty, staff and team bought into it. She was a wonderful person and I was very blessed to have her in my life. She will be missed.

I met Mrs. Rogers soon after Teri and I met each other at Georgia Tech. From that point on, she welcomed me into her home many, many times as if I were one of her own. That never changed---and I am so glad I got to give her one more hug and tell her I loved her just a few weeks ago. She was truly one of a kind.

Mrs. Rogers was not only a teacher and administrator, she was also one of the most influential mentors to thousands of teenagers that passed through the halls of Shamrock High School! She became and remained a friend to so many more. What an amazing legacy this one woman has left behind! I hope she left her earthly body knowing what a difference she made in not only my life, but the lives of so many others. We cross paths with people every day but we, "The Dragon Nation" were truly blessed to have crossed paths with the best of the best! Rest in Peace Mrs. Rogers and know your "other kids" love and will miss you very much.

Heartbreak....I only just now found out that my Moms only sister, my Aunt Wilva has passed on. I have the best memories of "Wilva" as I called her, when she and Mom were young and when we were all together the two of them had these lovely laughing voices that were distinct and beautiful. I know that her last few years were difficult and it sweet sorrow to know she is now in Gods arms. Teri provided loving and valiant care giving, providing her with comfort in her own home for her final time. Much love to you all. Melissa Crenshaw ( Lissie)

Her Life

Cliff Notes: Please Add your Own Chapter, and Don't Forget the Photos!

October 8, 2019
Wilva Marie Cearley Rogers was born on January 24, 1930 near Oxford, Mississippi and after a brief illness returned to her home with the Lord on October 6 2019.  Life in rural Mississippi during the depression built the fire that burned brightly inside her to fight for the welfare of all people.  An avid human and animal rights activist, she lived her beliefs and led by example to instill them in each person she had the opportunity to influence. She accomplished this with a warmth and humor that lasted through her final days. Her wish is that each of you carry just a bit of it inside you.

She graduated from Ole Miss's University High School and received her BS in Physical Education and an MS in Education at Ole Miss as well. She later received her EDS degree from that school just east of Atlanta that Teri asked not be mentioned.

After living in northern Florida for about eight years, she came to DeKalb county to teach in the basement of Clarkston High School. The rest is history.  She followed her students into the real Shamrock High school later that year and finished her career as Principal of her beloved Dragon Nation.  She nurtured this nation with a love and sense of humor that resonates through most any conversation held about her - with just a touch of, "Don't mess with Mama."

She enjoyed over 30 years of retirement traveling with her family, maintaining her beautiful backyard garden, and staying in contact with over 900 of her 'kids' on Facebook - many in person.  The family wishes to thank them all; as well as the countless faculty, staff, friends and family that were so loyal to her throughout her days.

She was predeceased by her Mom and Dad, Pauline Knight Cearley and Corbett Cearley of Oxford, and her Sister Ernelinda Cearley Crenshaw, of Kansas City and Oxford.  She is survived by the love of her life, husband Bill Rogers originally from Ripley, MS, daughter Teri; countless nieces, nephews and cousins and her beloved Shamrock High School family.  They are so blessed by her quick and peaceful passing but will travel on with a huge Wilva shaped hole in their hearts.

It does help knowing that she is sitting on what one very special member of the nation calls, "the greenest cloud in heaven;" surrounded by her beloved animals and the friends, family members and members of the nation that made it there before her. There is speculation that she has already named all the manatees and organized a birthday party for a dear member of the nation waiting for her.  Please add your own chapter in the novel of Wilva’s life.  She already carries it in her heart.  Thank you for sharing her life and passing with us!
