In Honor of my wonderful Mother and Friend

June 13, 2015

Dearest Elyn,
Rest in peace
Look down upon your family and friends
Send us blessings to carry on your ways

You were there for your sister's children
You were there for your brother's children
You were there for your own children
You were there for your husband, Arthur

Elyn, you taught us the meaning of faith
The meaning of unconditional love
The meaning of saving for what we truly need
The meaning of a sound education

You truly displayed the virtue of Patience
And the virtue of Perseverance
You were a Matriarch in your vision
For your children and entire family

It will be hard now that you are gone
We will each carry a part of you within ourselves
For us, you had never ending love
We deeply respect you, Elyn

In the arms of God you will rest
In heaven with our dearly departed
Until we are united again, dear Elyn
We forever celebrate you in our hearts!

ELYN SHENOI
A Versatile WIfe

A fulfilled wife and a devoted mother, Mrs. Elyn Shenoi firmly believes that glamour does not end with marriage, and that a well-kept wife is the pride of her husband. After four kids, Elyn is still trim and slim and has won more than one beauty contest. In 1970, she was crowned the "Esso Queen" at the annual Esso Ball.

While graduating from St. Xavier's College, Elyn took an active part in debates and seminars. She was also on the committee of seminars on Economics and Politics and read a paper on the controversial subject: "The Caste System in India." In Master of Arts, Elyn Shenoi secured a first class distinction in the Theory of Politics, securing the second highest marks in her college.

The daughter of Diwan Bahadur M.A.F. Coelho, a legal luminary of this country, Elyn has inherited the 'gift of the gab' from her father. At one largely attended function, where there were prominent citizens and members of Parliament also present, Elyn spoke so well that while congratulating her, the M.P.'s urged her, "Why don't you enter public life, and join us?" But Elyn though very well versed in the theory of politics has yet to decide whether to enter the field.

Elyn Shenoi is occupied with active social work. She believes that charity begins at home and keeps in close touch with those who assist her. She helps them financially and guides them the best she knows. Elyn is invaluable for fundraising projects and gives her whole-hearted cooperation to help organize shows for worthy causes. She also takes a keen interest in the Home for the Aged. Much impressed by the welfare work done by the Giants International, Elyn hopes to joint the Chembur group soon.

Mrs. Shenoi plays the piano and paints with a professional touch. Her two paintings - "The Konkan Coast" and "A Rajput Household" adorn her well-furnished home. Says Elyn, "This year of the woman has given us ample confidence. We are now on equal footing with men. Gradually women are coming to shed their inferiority complex. No more should they remain within four walls of the home. They use their spare time in the service of others less fortunate."
