“He Lived a Good Life”

George Washington was a man of faith, strength, and deep family values. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke, it was unwavering. Family was the most important thing to him, and he leaves many behind to carry on his legacy of love. Born in Richland Parish, Louisiana to Joel Washington and Bernice Paul Washington, he learned responsibility at a young age in the segregated South. His siblings often joke, "He was never a child" because he always took charge. He was the oldest of nine children: Jesse Lavender*, Lewis Charles Washington*, Ola Bunnitt, James Washington*, Ernestine Pierce, Willie T. Byrd, Ethel Campbell, and Samuel Washington. He married Beaetta Nabors* at age 19 and had 69 years of matrimony before her passing September 4, 2015. Together George and Beaetta raised five children: Eddie LeRoy*, George Ray, Beatrice  Lenore(David) Jokines, Ulysses O'Brien, and Vincent Edwards(Georgette) .

George Washington was adored by his grandchildren, as "Pa Pa". At an earlier age, he decided to move his young wife to Chicago, Illinois so he could “own something”. He and his family resided in Chicago until May 2014 where he agreed to move to Florida to be under the care of his daughter Beatrice and son-in-law David. During his short stay in Florida, he enjoyed the Florida sunshine and revisited his hobby of gardening by contributing to his plot at the Friendly Hearts Community Gardens in Jensen Beach. Above all, George valued family. As the oldest son to Joel and Bernice Washington, he took his role as eldest child seriously. He was a confidant, provider, and protector for not only his siblings and his children, but to all of his family members. He was the rock.

George Washington lived a prosperous life and walked by faith. He often stated, when faced with hardship, "I trust God." The legacy of faith and courage of his convictions have been passed down to generations to come. His family feels truly blessed to have had him as the patriarch and they are rejoicing with him as he joins with those who have passed before him and reunites with his beloved bride, Beaetta, in paradise.
