Ivan Y. Choi was born on October 25, 1940 in Hong Kong to Choy, Wai Hoy (age 94) and the late Choy, Po Chun. He was a graduate of Pui Ching Middle School in Hong Kong and earned his bachelors and masters degree in chemical engineering at Montana State University and an MBA from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. He had a fulfilling career as a design engineer at Monsanto Company and spent the majority of his working years as a U.S. expatriate in Bangkok, Thailand where he designed and built the first aspirin plant in Thailand and became Vice President of the division in Thailand. He came to love living in Bangkok and decided to retire there. In retirement, Ivan continued to be busy lending his expertise to companies in Asia. He also kept busy playing golf and seeing friends at the Royal Bangkok Sports Club. In his life he had various interests. He was very athletic and especially liked to play tennis, badminton, and ping pong. In school, he competed in track and field and ran the 400m. He was also musically talented and loved to sing and play the violin. He enjoyed several hobbies; one of which was raising show pigeons and another was breeding discus fish for which he became famous in Europe. 

Ivan is survived by his children Clifford Choi of Hong Kong, Emily Choi and her husband of Dallas, TX, and Louis Choi of St. Louis, Mo., whom he raised with his former wife, Lina Wu; two grandchildren: Jessica Choi and Lucas Choi; and his younger siblings, Hans Choy and his wife Maggie of Edmonton, Canada, Michael Choi of Edmonton, Canada, Don Choi and his wife Helena of Toronto, Canada, Evan Choi and his wife Joanne of Toronto, Canada, Mazie Chung and her husband, Robert of Hong Kong, PRC, and Lizzie Der and her husband, Hung of Toronto, Canada.
