I was blessed to have such a caring and supportive mother in Phyllis.  My sister, Joan, had severe cerebral palsy. Phyllis cared for her with love and grace for fifteen years. She was devoted to John, her husband of 65 years. They loved and cared for each other laughing all the way. Always positive, Mom encouraged me to pursue my life's dreams. Even in the end of her life when her memories were eluding her, she still had a positive spirit and appreciation of life and her caregivers. She often admired the tall trees out her window and joked with the nurses coming in and out of her room.  In her final days, as she prepared to transition into the next life, Phyllis spoke and laughed with the spirits of dear ones departed from this world. Her passing was a peaceful blessing, richly deserved.

In cahoots

September 14, 2016

Thank you Deborah for the great photos of your mother. She was a talented person!! I'm so sorry for your loss.

This story was about both of your parents and how welcoming they were to young people. My husband,Tim, was a young pastor in the Northampton MA area and he was invited to be in a study\support group with other young pastors with your Dad. At the end of the group, the pastors and their partners were invited to a dinner and entertainment at your parents' Williamsburg house.

After dinner, your parents hilariously entertained us with a variety of games that I'm sure they had perfected on many unsuspecting youth groups. The two games I remember best were the dictionary game and "in cahoots" with the 9 magazines. I think they enjoyed playing their parts the most in the "cahoots" portion. Your mother was fabulous at playing the tuning in to the 'zone' and we were all so impressed. It was great fun .... and we have used both games over and over. We will never forget either of them. Thank you for sharing your Mom and Dad with us! <3
