Deep Canyon Tennis Club, in Palm Desert

October 17, 2018

Almost a week with Roberta...took a few wrong turns, but got there.  College of the desert weekend street fair, movies, jazz resturant in Palm Springs just a few of our adventures.  The mountain trip to Idylwild was georgeous.  Of course, shopping too!  Roberta was always willing to try new things.  That week was 2011.  But Roberta was a loving  support to me for my Kennedy years and years after.

I think of her often.  And miss her always.  Thank you to Larry who reminds us of how wonderful his mother was each year.  Don't stop.

Roberta is in my heart.

Dear Roberta,

We all had such a wonderful day! I will cherish that memory always as with all of the other memories from years gone by (I remember helping you cross the street in London to meet Debi @ starbucks due to the confusion of people driving the opposite way, I remember going to the movies with you and having ice cream & matzo ball soup, playing with Ritzie, watching American Idol and so much more). I Love you & will miss you always.  Please say Hello to My Dad for me as I know you both are in a beautiful place.

Love Always,
Amanda

Dessert

January 17, 2013

Roberta had a coupon for a free dessert at Dukes on the Beach. The waiter was only going to bring one free dessert for Sheri's birthday. So Roberta kept reminding him that she had a coupon for a free dessert. Finally, he gave in and brought 2 free desserts to the table. We all laughed about it.

Road Trip

January 7, 2013
John and I live in Maryland, and of course Jack and Roberta lived in California. We visited them in LA several times, and they came to DC on occasion. We met at other locations, such as San Diego, Phoenix (Redskin game) then on to Flagstaff, and Daytona Beach/Orlando/Disney World. We enjoyed our time together, but I'll share a memory of our visit to the Grand Canyon. It was December and very cold. We stopped at one or two overlooks, and we all got out for a look at the canyon. Roberta shared that she was there a long time ago with the ex-husband or ex-boyfriend, but she didn't see much due to a fight, but both of them saw enough and stayed in the car at the next ten or so overlooks so I could take pictures. We laughed about it and only good friends would have that much patience for me to take pictures and see the canyon from as many vantage points as I could. No matter where we were, we would find humor in what was around us and just enjoy each other's company. Roberta even went with us to The Price Is Right (my bucket list), it was a long day and we didn't make it on stage, but we enjoyed each other's company. Memories, I shall cherish.

Where's My Cherries!Hawaii 2012

January 2, 2013

Auntie was always fond of her cherries.  On the first day of being in Hawaii, we went grocery shopping at 10 o'clock at night!  Katie and I went to get food that we liked while mom and Auntie went and got what they liked.  When we met up after we were all done with everything, we put everything in the car and drove home.

Every single day she would say, "I'm going to eat some of my cherries now."  Finally on the last day she was packing to go to the airport to go home.  She had everything packed and went into the refrigerator to get her cherries so she could pack them.

Well what do you know, they weren't there.  She went up to everyone in that room (mom, Katie, and I) and asked if we had thrown away her cherries.  We all said we didn't know where they were.  I told her, "Maybe you already packed them."  After about 2 minutes she went in her room to check and there they were, sittiing on top of her suitcase.  It was the funniest thing ever.  We were all laughing about that.  I will never forget this incredible trip.

Horseback Riding On Maui,July,2012

January 2, 2013

Roberta and I remembered riding horses as a teenager. We decided to go with my daughter, Sheri and grandaughter, Katie. After 1 excrutiating hour I decided to bail.

I told her she could continue, but she said no. She said she didn't want to be the first one to bail and would join me. We all laughed because her horse was so wide.

She practically did the splits! But we had fun. What a great trip.
