The shock, the pain and devastation of the passing unto glory of a beautiful soul suddenly is inexplicable. Our Beloved Presbyter, a complete epitome of joy, peace, kindness and grace; it continues as though it is a dream to me and my family that our Daddy has transited. We are undoubtedly sad but Heavens home call cannot be ignored. We mortals cry but the Heavens rejoice, Earth's loss is Heavens gain. We will miss you always our dearly beloved Daddy.

Very Rev. Gabriel Olukayode is a great man of God with Christ like attitude, when I worked as pioneer Accountant of Methodist Diocese of Lagos West he was transferred to Methodist Church OKE Afa Isolo as Presbyter, he worked very hard to revived the Church and initiated construction of new Church building through friendly relationship with Church members. As usually addressed by my then boss Now Most Rev. Isaac Ago Olawuyi "Baba Adekanla" the man is a great replica of Jesus Christ in terms of humility and humble. May his soul rest in perfect peace.

The true measure of a man is how much love he gives; how selflessly he shares whatever he can to help others; how consistently he lifts up those around him with a kind word, a compliment, a humble ear or the very shoes off his feet. By this measure dad was immeasurable. Daddy was the most sincerely altruistic person I have ever known with no attachment to material things.

Dad left an impact on every person he met, even strangers (who didn’t stay very long because he was just so damn friendly). The love daddy spread on this Earth continues to grow and will live on, and that is the ultimate measure of any human being. In 2018 during my service year, i remember vividly well all your effort to get me a PPA in ogun state. You can never be forgotten so soon because your legacy will forever live on....

I love you daddy, now and forevermore. Rest in perfect peace!

Dearest daddy, I remember being the little girl who never stops talking and playing in your living room, you'd call me baby lawyer then. Joking around with everyone and getting in trouble with Tayo especially. You're more than a father, you've been an angel in this cruel world. You opened your heart and your home to everyone with a heart warming smile, no one was left unwelcomed. Your laughter, a genuine melody, never a sad moment with you. A man of God thorough and through, a soldier of the cross. You'll live on forever, there's never a good bye but rather till we meet again at Jesus feet. Sleep well in the Lord.
Mimi.

Tribute to My Friend—The Very Reverend Gabriel Olukayode Adekanla

Good Night, Kayode. We’ll see, again. In the morning.

Kayode was, for sure, my relative but more than a relative, he was a great friend, right from childhood. We became life-long pals. Even though we didn’t always see or get in touch, anytime we met, you found out that nothing has changed. Kayode was always easy-going, pleasant and jovial. He was a people-person. If you got him upset, he couldn’t stay angry—always forgiving, very friendly.

In 1976, on Saturday 31st of July, a former senior in High School, who was then a student at the then University of Ife, visited back home at Imesi-Ile and said he would see us—Kayode and me. Sometime in the afternoon of that day our paths crossed, so the senior sat with us on the low-seating area, on the outside of the now Ijana Methodist Heritage House, on that side that faces Ijana-Oke Street, to explain to us the gospel—looking for us to make our decision for Christ and commit our lives to Him. He talked beyond religion—he knew we were religious! (We have been religious and active in Church all our lives till that time) Now, he talked to us about sin and the good news of Jesus’ saving power. He offered us the Bible-invitation to repent toward God and give our lives to Christ for salvation.

That time we were late in our teenage years and were familiar with sin and rebellion—even though we were religious! The senior showed us Scriptures, much of which I still remember like it happened yesterday. Thankfully to God, we were convinced of our sinful actions and nature; and were ready to change direction. We prayed the sinner’s prayers and asked Christ into our hearts. We were saved immediately, and we knew it.

Kayode was a person given to praying at night. I remember that soon after we were saved, we would seek for the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Kayode would wake me up at night which I wasn’t used to. Many decades later I found out he still often prayed and had his quiet time at night.

His ministries had glowing testimonies of lives saved, souls illuminated, of people moving from mere religion to Christ.

To Kayode, ministry was not a “career” but a call. He was headed in a different career path, to be some other thing. Responding to God’s call—like many Bible prophets—wasn’t easy for him but he ended up doing God’s will, anyway. He served creditably like a person that whole-heartedly embraced his call. He ran his race with clear focus to the end. Many found the Light by the gospel he preached, the understanding he taught and his warm friendly disposition.

He left us so painfully but now in the bosom of our Lord. He ran the race; he kept the faith.

Kayode, May God send His deep comfort all of us you left, keep your family strong and uphold all, who through your witness, have come to know our Lord Jesus Christ.

Good Night, Kayode. We’ll see, again. In the morning.

Amen.

Affectionately,
Very Rev. Dr. Samuel Jegede

Really shocking!

...and very hard to accept

However, I know you lived an impactful life.

One thing that I will forever remember about you daddy, was your dedication and energy put into the "HOUR OF REFRESHING" program in Opebi Methodist Church.

Before everyone arrived, you would have been in the church praying fervently. This act actually made the program to be highly impactful even from the praise and worship to the ministration.

Thank you sir and good night

Hmmmm, if this came to me as a prophecy on 2nd April which was the last time I saw you, I would have arrested the prophet for blasphemy. My uncle, big daddy, my reverend, I still can't believe you are gone. I wish I had left everything thing I was doing to go to your house if I knew that was the last time I will be seeing you. My big daddy, your loss will be felt by all in Adekanla family and Olojudo's compound at large, am missing you already. I am still waiting for a miracle to just happen and this is all dream you are still with us. I have a whole lot I have been planning to discuss with you the next time we meet o but God knows best. Rest on, till we meet to part no more. Sun re O!!! - ADEBOLA ESTHER ADEKANLA

This is sad Memories of first meeting with you keeps on coming, you kept on saying "Omo Oga Mi"  That meeting said a lot about your great personality. You were a loving father and one of the great heroes of Methodist Church Nigeria.
You will be greatly missed by us and the church.
May your beautiful and humble soul rest in PERFECT peace.  I rejoice on the other end because you are resting joyfully in the bosom of the saints.

The Lord comfort mummy, bro Yemi, bro Tayo and my two sisters.

A Great Legend.....

The news of your demise came as a great shock...I still can't believe you are gone.
You stood solidly beside me.
You stood as a source of motivation, encouragement and a pillar.
I had it in mind to share the story of my success with you but death took you away.
You left when I needed you most as my spiritual father and my prayer warrior.
Your assurance and smile each day you set your eyes on me gives me the hope of a better tomorrow.
I know you already have a place on the right hand side of our God.
You shall surely be missed.
My consolation lies in the fact that we shall meet to part no more someday..
Rest on dear Daddy.

I really can’t believe this. I remember as a child in Sunday school you gave the best advice, you always cared for us as a father and you were very open.

May God continue to comfort the family at this time. You will be dearly missed sir.
