Sitting at the kitchen table

November 28, 2017

I've know "Berta" ALL of my life. I stayed at her house after school, learned to watch & fall in love w/soap operas (which my mother hated) and learned how to cook delicious meals for my family all by sitting at the kitchen table of Alberta Smith.

What is remarkable to me about her is before we had the internet, Google, Suri, or Echo, our family had Alberta Smith. She KNEW everything & never moved from her seat at her kitchen table.

She knew the news of the neighborhood, the city, Lumpkin, GA, your former classmates, her former classmates, people you didn't know she knew, etc. She knew it ALL and never moved from her seat at her kitchen table.

Her death has left a tremendous void in my heart. I will miss her calling me Cindy (it's an inside joke).

It's not easy to say goodbye to someone you've known and loved your entire life.
