Today would have made you 86 and I bet you would've been doing the Jerusalema dance right along with Grandma. I don't know if you know this but nyango Mary is a pro now. If you don't believe me, ask her CWA group. Its been 10 years since you passed but I can still remember the last time I visited you like it was yesterday. We miss you so much grandpa. Life hasn't been the same without your smile. I have some jist for you. Its been 7 years since I gave you a written update on life so here we go...
Your grandkids have been graduating from highschool, college, getting married and making money haha! They are all doing their best in their respective corners of the world by the grace of God. We try to stay in touch and there have even been a few family reunions. The older cousins are pretty close and the younger ones are following suit. Needless to say, the Okala-Ambe blood line is still going strong. The family is on a mission to continue to support each other and although family drama is inevitable, it always makes for a good laugh.
We may be going to Cameroon in December. Every time we go to Douala, I imagine you sitting in your chair next to the radio and sending people to buy us drinks. Well, I'm sure you know this but grandma got rid of your radio. You have to admit, that thing was getting old haha. Saturday mornings with you and your radio stations were the best. I have too many memories to count and I'm choosing to remember the best of them. When you were agile, full of life and a pro with the iron.
Grandpa, you were always such a great listener. Maybe that's why I'm giving you all this jist. From the time I can remember you always wanted to hear our stories about everything... boarding school, aspirations and my perspective on certain topics. Its just dawning on me that maybe we should have gotten you to tell us more of your stories. It fascinates me every time Madam tells me tid-bits about your life growing up and how you were raised as a little boy and a young man in the 50s and 60s. When I get to Heaven, I want to hear it from the horse's mouth. So get those stories ready grandpa. We have more jist to catch up on the next time we meet.
With Love,
Queen
