As a member of the East Stonewall family and daughter of the late Mrs. Virginia Shaw, I would like to express my condolences to the family of Bishop McCoy. Let us be encouraged that he taught us to follow the steps of Jesus Christ, making WWJD become REAL in our lives. I was married by Bishop and I am saddened, though encouraged. May God bless each family member.

I continue to miss my friend and brother, James. It brings me pleasure to remember him on this 69th anniversary of his birth. I keep a copy his funeral program on the bulletin board in my office at Mother Zion. May God continue to bless Shirley and the girls.

I knew Jim McCoy in the church casually before he came to Brooklyn. When he came to Brooklyn we pastored side by side for 24 years. We became close friends and often ate lunch together at MacDonald's Dining Room. He was a great preacher. A true Methodist. A great friend. I will miss him, but I shall never forget him.

Praising God for the life and light of Bishop James E. McCoy. When I think of Bishop McCoy I think of laughter. He had a way of bringing a lightness to the toughest, most serious and even most sacred times. I also think of him singing every verse of "It is Well With My Soul". Indeed it is well with my soul for one of God's own has been called home to eternal rest. - The Penrose Family

Bishop James E. McCoy has been my spiritual father for 30 years. From the age of 12 he took me in and treated me as his own. His guidance, preaching, teaching and council helped to make me who I am today. I will forever miss him and love him.
