My Dad was born to Carl M and Lena (Ellingson?) Warner, 7th of 8 kids, 4th of five boys, and three girls. I assume he was born at home on the 40 acre farm where he was raised.  Their brick farmhouse was built by his grandfather, Peder Vaage, who migrated from Norway.

A family story told to me by my dad is that, when Peder was being processed through Ellis Island, officials had trouble understanding him when he spoke his last name. The story explained that on the west coast of Norway near Trondheim, Vaage was pronounced with a very guttural intonation - that was what threw off the officials not the name itself.  Peder, wanting  to be able to adapt to his new homeland, changed their family name.  First changed to 'Petersen(?), he eventually settled on Warner.
