Carol was sudden and tragically taken away from us on January 31st. We will remember her forever. Thank you all for sharing in her wonderful and full life.

There is a Memorial Service Friday February 5th, 11am at First Christian Church (302 NW 6th St, Mineral Wells).

In lieu of flowers, the Family requests you make a donation to Horsemen For Christ (PO Box 9524, Wichita Falls, Texas 76308. Make checks payable to HFC and put Carol's name on the memo line);  Wings of Hope Equitherapy (www.wingsofhopehorses.org/donate.html); or a charity of your choice. Thank you.

Carol and I have been friends a long time. She was so inspiring with her positive attitude and smile. I attended her aerobic classes, went dancing, shared many meals, laughter and tears! She and Michael were a perfect match (since I introduced them). She and I texted or talked every week. I miss her so much, dreamed about her and Michael last night. A life well lived!

I had just gotten a sweet hug from Carol one night last week and we were making plans to have dinner and catch up. Carol, save a place for me at that big table with you and Jesus and we WILL catch up! It was a joy to know you sweet lady!

Sweet Carol Mace, am thinking of you right now as I have almost constantly since early in the week. You truly were a ray of sunshine on earth and now are one in heaven.

How much happiness you brought to the many of us who loved you. May these memories comfort Mike, your boys and Nedda Jo.

With love,
Mary Anne

I have not known Carol for very long, but I am so blessed that I got to know such a special lady. Carol was one of a kind! So sweet and caring, and her smile just made my day. She always had kind words and a wonderful attitude. I will always remember our rides out in the back pasture and the stories we shared. I admired Carol's determination and grit. Carol and her horse Bobby were such an inspiration. She always tried her hardest and never gave up. I am truly going to miss her. God gained a true angel!!!!

Carol loved life! One of the best trips I have had was when I took my daughter to New York, along with my parents, and Carol and Mike met us for dinner. They were such a fun and lively couple. They seemed to be so well suited to one another. What a testament to what love can be! She will definitely be missed!

Probably what Carol & I enjoyed sharing most was our two oldest grandsons, Blake & Mac & children Monica & Stephen (I can still see in my mind's eye the glances we shared during weddings & births, athletic competitions & family parties). Being in high school together, competing for rodeo queen (of course she won first to my second more than once, most deservedly), our love for all animals, especially exercising horses together...all these things are special memories of Carol who was, to me, the most beautiful of all high school beauties & by far the best majorette & horsewoman; but her kindness to my mom showed Carol @ her best: bringing delicious meals during the many years I cared for Mom. I loved watching Carol & Michael dance @ class reunions...So, sweet friend & co-grandmother, I will miss you until we can both dance to heavenly music; & maybe ride winged horses; but now I am so very sad.

My sweet sister, I cannot believe you are gone. Gone from my sight but never from my heart.
We were always there for each other in good times and bad with love and acceptance.
Your earthly existence is laid to rest but your eternal sweet spirit is in Heaven. God has a new special angel.

Steve and I were blessed by sharing some very special family moments with Carol and Mike. She not only opened the door to her home, she opened her heart to all that entered through that door. She was a bright light, warmed you with her beautiful smile, and was a kind and gentle woman. We will miss her, and we will be grateful for knowing her.

This really saddens my heart. Carol was my favorite PE teacher in elementary school. As an adult and being around her, her smile and laughter has been a ray of sunshine. My heart goes out to Michael and his family. Lots of thoughts and prayers for them.

My heart is broken at the loss of a very dear friend. Carol was one of the sweetest, kindest hearted and positive people I have ever known. Never did I see her, be it at the grocery store or her front door, that she didn't greet me with her winning smile and as big a hug as her tiny frame could deliver. I do not have words to express my appreciation of her as a person and how much I am impacted by her loss. She will be deeply missed. God has gained a Champion !

Carol and I were friends from the day we met at Houston Elementary in 1993. We shared a love of horses, dogs, and other animals. She came out to help me build our goat barn out of rocks and mud from our ranch. The picture I posted is from that day. I gave her a copy, and she loved it. I told her the caption should read, "When we were little girls, we loved to play in the mud together!" Jerry and I loved Carol, and we love Michael. We are still in shock, grieving the loss of a dear friend.

I cannot remember not knowing Carol - Carolyn Mace Lee. Our fathers went to Graford High School together and were lifelong friends, our grandmothers lived next door to one another, we were born just days apart and shared pallets, playpens, and parties - just almost family. Her parents were Aunt Mace and Uncle Ed to my sisters and me; ours were Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Ben L. to Carol and Neda. My heart cannot believe I will not see her again. Love always, Carol. I will remember us together and hold your family in my prayers..

This breaks my heart. Carol was my PE teacher in elementary school, and worked with my mom, Mattie Maxwell, for years and years in real estate. They were very close, and she helped my mom out a lot while she was sick. I am very grateful for that. She will be missed dearly.

I am relatively new to Mineral Wells but was lucky to have met and become friends with Carol and Mike first through the love of tennis then as couples hanging out together at all kinds of venues.

Dan and I were always made to feel welcome in their home and enjoyed getting to know her and Mike.

Always a smile. Never a harsh word or words against anyone. She was in love with her husband as she worked so hard to surprise him last year on his Birthday with a surprise party.

I am still in shock and praying for Mike and all of her family and friends who are grieving the loss of such a wonderful person.

She will be missed by me and Dan.

We love you Mike and hope you know we are here for you.

A horsewoman deluxe. Carol was a living example of "actions speak louder than words"; and her children and future generations gifted with the love of her heart and educated with the wonder of her wit will always be a blessing in this community.

May she rest in peace. My condolences to all who belonged in her inner circle and the many who were touched by the energy she and her family generated in this life.

Shared by your Chi Omega Sister

February 3, 2016

As her sister Neda has said,"I cannot believe Carol is gone!"  She was so special!
Carol was my roomie, my dear friend, and a beautiful person in every way.
Our friendship began when Carol and I were "pot-luck" roommates our freshman year at the University of Texas and felt we had been blessed to be brought together in so many ways.  We laughed, cried, cheered each other on during finals, and shared our love for life and family.  Carol and I both were the older sisters, had fathers in the Chevrolet business, and became even dearer to each other as we became Chi Omega sisters in the Iota Chapter at UT.  She was a bridesmaid in John and my wedding 53 years ago.  She had three boys and I had three girls.  She was the Godmother of our daughter, Michelle.  She was the unconditional friend who remained unwavering and dearly loving in our friendship as we faced joys and adversities through the years. We even laughed when we learned that each had purchased Camaro convertibles as 70 year olds!  She and Michael brought such joy to John and me when they came to Nacogdoches for our 50th wedding anniversary celebration and shared their amazing dancing talent and beautiful smiles with all.

I will miss you, Carol, and at the same time celebrate your earthly life in which you enriched my life and so many others. May we look forward to the day we meet again beyond this earthly life.  John and I send our love and condolences to you, Michael, and your family.   Love and blessings.
With Chi O Love!!!

Good Bye My Friend(a poem by me)

February 2, 2016

I now must  say goodbye to you,

      my sweet and trusted friend.

There is no doubt in my mind,

we are soon to meet again.

I'm thankful for the short time,

    we traveled the same road.

It's good to have a friend along,

to lighten up the load .

I cherish every moment

that we shared along the way.

And think of oh so many times

  you brightened up my day.

I know  you're up ahead of me ,

I still can see your light.

I still can hear your laughter ,

up ahead but out of sight.

                   I will miss you Carol.

To me Carol was the most beautiful school beauty @ MWHS.  Quite the majorette, she was also athletic.  Later when our children united in marriage, she told me she envied my athletic ability; but Carol's horsemanship proved she was a great athlete.  I felt it was well-deserved that she won first to my second as rodeo queen 3 times.  When we were both single, we rode together when I exercised her horses for her, enjoying such beautiful animals...typical happening, perhaps, in a small town where we both lived most of our lives, having grandsons in common was the most delightful common interest.  I appreciated her delicious covered dishes she brought when I was caring for Mom.  I think what I will miss most is watching Carol & Mike dance @ class reunions & visiting @ family holiday celebrations.  They were so very fantastic.  Carol was positive, humble & such a gracious hostess.  She hosted Katy's & Blake's wedding shower about this time last year, happily giving me a tour of their new home...so special, then, March 21st watching our first grandson, Blake,  marry.  Our second grandson, Mac, is my only blue-eyed grandchild...those blue eyes just like Carols, seldom seen unsmiling.  My love & prayers to my children, to Michael & all her immediate family that broken hearts heal, leaving room for all the special memories of happier times.  Carol will be missed.
