Cathy said not to mourn her so this online memorial will serve as our place to gather and share our memories.
  • 73 years old
  • Born on June 13, 1944 in Rome, Georgia, United States.
  • Passed away on July 13, 2017 in Safety Harbor, Florida, United States.

My mother's wishes were to be cremated and for others not to mourn her. In lieu of a traditional funeral and viewing, our family will be having a private celebration of life in Clearwater Beach in late July. However, Cathy was always a fan of engaging with others online. She was constantly reading news sites, blogs, participating in forums, buying & selling on ebay, and even corresponding with others across the globe via So we feel it is fitting to have a memorial online for our mother for others to visit and engage with. No doubt she would have enjoyed browsing the site, reading and leaving comments and viewing the photos. Please feel free to share in any manner that is comfortable for you.

Friends and family are encouraged to donate to either of these great organizations instead of sending food or flowers:

Hospice Provider:
The hospice care center provided a very caring and comfortable last experience for our mother. We are grateful to the staff and volunteers that make this a warm, caring and dignified experience.

Animal Friends:
This great organization is where Cathy adopted two special dogs that provided years of fun and enjoyment.

Cathy, we who know you no where you are now. Jesus took you HOME to be with your Mom and Dad and Korrin. You are where we all will go when we are called HOME by Jesus. I will be praying for your FAMILY and I will ask the congregation that I am serving to pray for the FAMILY also. It is hard to let you go, but you now have new LIFE in being with Jesus. It is hard for us, but you are seeing and hearing all the comments. We know God needed a BEAUTIFUL ROSE to add to His Heavenly Kingdom. May God's peace and comfort in time be with your family and us who will miss you. God has one of His BEAUTIFUL ROSES with Him.

Cathy, you were my first "cousin" friend. I will always remember going to Grandma's on Sunday afternoons, along with the other cousins. I never did see you angry or mad. You were such a good and patient mother. Even thought we weren't close in location, I will miss you greatly.

Dearest Cathy, You were smart, so smart that I read all the CNN websites a week prior to your visits so I could participate in family conversations when you all were here. You were patient, so very, very patient with our girls. They can be firecrackers, and talk/fuss for hours, but you never lost your patience. Only once did you exclaim "Thank God you're back" when Patrick and I came back from dinner to find Emily had peed outside of her diaper. You were loving, so loving towards our family, myself, and our daughters. I will never forget hearing your voice saying "Hi babies" as you answered the Facetime call each week with Molly and Emily. And I'll never forget when you told me you always wanted to name a daughter Wendy, and now you had me. We love you and miss you!

To the McDonough family My thoughts and prayers are with you all at the passing of your wife and mother. I actually “met” Cathy through Ancestry and Facebook. We exchanged several messages and shared our trees. We both had a love of genealogy and were able to help each other. Have comfort in knowing that she is now with the ancestors that she searched for. May God comfort you all.

There have been so many fond memories over the years. One in particular was your love of cards. I remember as a kid hearing "the talk" while playing cards the with McAuliffe's - lots of laughter for sure and those stories could go on for hours! ! As an adult, sitting across from you playing Texas Hold 'Em...calculating your odds, poker face, reading your opponents! You loved the challenge! Remember - if you can't beat them, then bluff them! May there be many trips, quads, and flushes for you in heaven. You will be truly missed Cathy! xoxox

We forget sometimes about all the great memories from the past, yet we love to reminisce because our hearts, of course, are broken. We will continue to smile and remember, we will laugh and we will cry, life will go on but it will never be the same. Thank you, Cathy. Rest in peace now – we will be here for Carrie, Jayme, Patrick, and Uncle Jimmy, so no more worries. xoxo Toots

Cathy, I am so proud to call you my sister, the love you showed me and others is what made you so special. I always admired how you and Jim raised your children, your guidance has made them who they are and what they have become today, I know you will continue to guide them from above. And those two grandchildren, I don't think I have ever seen a bigger smile on your face when you would talk about them , or held them in your arms, but now you can sit back in heaven and continue to smile as they grow. Until we meet again, with all my love , your little sister.
