Only 38 at the time of his passing, Christopher (Chris) Scott Singer, from Mullica Hill, NJ, lived a rich and love filled life.   Chris passed peacefully, with his family by his side, on March 17, 2021, at Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Camden NJ, after a sudden and intense battle with liver failure.

Born in Connecticut, Chris lived most of his life in the Philadelphia area – having grown up in Voorhees, NJ, attended Eastern Regional High School, lived and attended college in Philadelphia, and eventually settled in Mullica Hill, NJ.

His son Ethan, his family, and his friends meant everything to Chris.  He so loved family gatherings, holidays, game nights, weddings, long evenings of Heroclix, any excuse to get together with family or friends.  He tended to be quiet and unassuming, but we all understood what we meant to Chris and the fierce love he had for us. He is survived by son Ethan (15), Father Bill, Mother Janet (Antonitis), and Brother Jonathan (JJ).  Chris’s much-loved family and friends include – Aunt Ruth (George), Phil (Maria, Jordan), Krista (Mark), Andrea (Tom, Dylan), Uncle Bob (Brenda, Michael, Matthew, Marie), Aunt Carol (Jack, Amanda, Stephanie), Aunt Karen, Jason (Jen, Daphne, Owen), Lauren (Craig, Quinn), Ryan, Greg (Lauren, Alex, Jonathan) Danielle (Devon), Dino, Robb, Erik, Mike, and the game night crew. All of our hearts are broken by Chris’s passing – he still had so much to give.

Chris had a beautiful mind.  It was genius, complex, questioning, always racing.  He had a wicked sense of humor and incredible wit. He remembered anything and everything – he was the Trivia partner you wanted on your team; the Boggle player you did not dare compete against.  

Chris loved everything about the arts: from visual - movies, TV, photography, drawing, visual performances; to auditory – music, bands, instruments.  For years Chris was a member of the band Chromelodeon, which brought him much happiness and satisfaction.  Dino and the other band members played an important role in providing fulfillment in Chris’s life.  Chris’s creativity and sense of visualization was honed growing up with the Antonitis family, an accomplished group of artists.  He loved listening to many different genres of music, passing along this love for music to his son Ethan.  His large and eclectic collection of songs is one to be admired. Chris studied film making at Drexel University and attended numerous courses on visual arts.

Prior to passing Chris was able to share his personal desires for his arrangements.  As such, Chris will be cremated, followed by a small, private, family burial.  But Chris asked us to Celebrate his Life, so when it becomes feasible to socially gather again, a rocking party will be held to honor and celebrate the amazing and much-loved Chris Singer.  We are hoping that party could be towards late summer 2021.

Hi, everybody. If anyone is looking for a charity to donate to in Chris' name, I have a suggestion. As many of us know, Chris was a lifelong fan of Parliament-Funkadelic, so I decided to do a little research to see if I could find a charity that one of the P-Funk members was involved with. It turns out that Bootsy Collins is on the board of directors of a group called Little Kids Rock, which provides music lessons and resources to kids in economically disadvantaged areas. I figure that as a father, and as a musician, Chris would be happy to hear that a donation to an organization like this was made in his name.

Having been Chris's friend for over two decades since high school, we have accrued dozens of layers of inside jokes from our shared love of random weird pop culture and similar humor. We'd text each other on a regular basis, especially when we encountered something that randomly reminded us of them, it was like a never ending treasure hunt. This connection will remain with me forever.

I had known of and known Chris Singer for quite some time. However, I knew we were going to be best friends when I happened upon him pulling up to a party in south philly blaring Ice Ts "6 In The Morning." As I would declare Ohio Players Westbound catalog the greatest funk collection of all time, Chris would quietly remind me of the superiority of Funkadelic's Eddie Hazel period. When I thought I knew everything about Philly rapper Schoolly D, Chris blew my mind when he showed me the song "I Don't." All of this while we'd be footballing every Sunday during the NFL season for the better part of a decade. It was so great to know Chris and I will miss him for eternity. Rest In Power

Chris was my best friend when I hit rock bottom. During a time when few other people in my life could help me or understand what I was going through, he let me sleep on his floor, and he fed me when I couldn't rub two nickels together. I'm not sure how I would have fared without Chris. He was a real one. My deepest condolences go to his parents, JJ, and Ethan.

Chris was one of my favorite people. I was always happy to show up at a social gathering and see him there. We co-wrote a poem together in class in high school called 'Ode to that Weird Guy' that we'd remind each other about every couple of years and it always made me laugh, no matter what was going on in my life. Even though we hadn't been in touch recently, this news has deeply saddened me. I'll miss him a lot . The world is a less interesting place without him in it. He was a true American original. RIP old friend.

It is hard to narrow down singular stories having known Chris for so long. He was a quiet and thoughtful but when he broke out of his shell, he turned into Super Chris.

Two stories in one is Chris's occasional shine when he did karaoke, which he liked off and on over the years.

A long time ago during the band days, our group was semi regularly going to Skeletor's Gong Show Karaoke. If you weren't good or were boring (which was 95% of the time for people), you'd get gong'd off stage by the host who was a Skeletor impersonator. That alone was weird enough for us to enjoy. But one time Chris showed up dressed as one of his own party personalities, "Duke America" (fully dressed in all flag clothing), and his karaoke song was God Bless America. He gamed the show, because the host Skeletor was surprised and afraid to gong him off. Chris killed it in one of his weird voices, the crowd loved him and the angle, and he was thrilled he one up'd the show.

The other half is jumping forward to somewhat recently, at a friend's 40th birthday Karaoke party. I goaded Chris into joining me to duet Laura Branigan's "Self Control". He loved this song since he said it made him picture his dad years ago driving around in a Datsun 280z like a old car commercial. I am glad I did that as it was one of the last times we had to hang in person and it was a great memory tied to so many prior ones.

One of the last times I saw Chris was at the second Chromelodeon reunion show in Philadelphia in 2019. At that point, I hadn't seen some of the guys in the band in several years, and I was a bit nervous about how things would shake out socially. When I walked into the venue, Chris was one of the first people I saw. As soon he saw me, he shouted "come here, ya big galoot!" and gave me a big bear hug. I still grin from ear to ear whenever I think about that moment. 

I've known Chris since high school, and I've always known him to be an endlessly creative, kind hearted person. From masterminding Chromelodeon's visual show, to his art, to his sound collage music, he was never afraid to jump into some form of art and do something unique and special with it. 

He was also a fantastic dancer!

Chris was a wonderful guy, and a great friend. I'll really miss having him around. 

My deepest condolences to JJ, Ethan, Chris' parents, and the rest of his family.
