The Last Day
(by Michael Dzwonkowski)
On my last day with mom I read to her from my journal. This entry was the last I read to her (it was for her).
I've got to go now, this life you gave me beckons. I have been by your side all day
Holding your hand. Right here beside you
I've got to get going now, your son has daughters and sons who need tucking-in too
You've been by my side all my life- holding my hand. Making sure I learn to enjoy this life you gave me. I,a lover of animals, especially cats- civic minded and open to all possibilities in life, especially when it comes to truth-
There are always threes sides to truth you'd say- his truth, her truth and the absolute truth. You need all three to know their whole truth.
See all the gifts you've given me- see all that's been bestowed
This life you gave me is the greatest one of all
Ive gotten home now, kids and cats are fed,
I'm still thinking of you, mom and all the things we've said-
sleep tight and I'll be back sooner than you think.
