Doreen's family hosted a Celebration of Life on Sunday, February 12, 2023. You can link here to view it or view it in the Video Gallery.
This website was created in memory Doreen O'Sullivan, who passed away on January 30, 2023 from a metastasized breast cancer. In her final days, Doreen was enveloped by friends, family, and caregivers who ensured her wishes of a joyful and peaceful passing in her home.

Doreen lived life on her own terms! She was an extremely creative and giving person. A life-long learner, traveler, healer, nature-lover and spiritual seeker, Doreen had a unique life experience. She lived, worked and studied in different locations, including New York State, San Francisco (12 years, 1981-1993), China, India, Ireland, and France.

"A purpose of my travels is to practice peace through community, sharing and being open with a variety of people in different environments with different experiences and perspectives yet the common bond to promote peace." – Doreen O'Sullivan, 1993
Professionally, Doreen worked as an acupuncturist, yoga teacher, herbalist, massage therapist, librarian, social worker, and as an advocate for social and environmental causes. She was a healthcare practitioner, yoga teacher and facilitator. Doreen worked with people of all ages and had a particular affinity for children and older adults.

Doreen was actively involved with various communities in New York, including the Tibetan Buddhist and Yoga communities, the Grail, and the Jackson Heights' Gardening Community.

We invite friends, family, colleagues and acquaintances of Doreen to leave a tribute and/or share a story and photos to remember her by. As per Doreen's wishes for those inclined to make a donation in her memory, donations should be made to a Dharma organization of your choice or a nature/enviromental organization.

As long as space remains, as long as the world remains,
May I too remain to alleviate the sufferings of the world.

Doreen was unselfish with her giving nature. She freely gave of her vast healing knowledge and adept hands on ability. She was always mailing off exotic herbs to us for ailments big and small. I was deeply touched and wept when I heard of your passing Doreen. You will be missed! Doreen, Willow's Wisp of the Dawn's Sweet Breath.

Happy Birthday to Doreen❣️
I received Doreen’s massage/acupuncture table which I was told she wanted me to have. I am a Craniosacral Therapist. It now has a home in the trunk of my car since it is very light & can be easily moved for home visits & reiki share sessions❤️
Thanks to Doreen for all her wonderful healing times when she worked on me on her table
I will think of you when I use it for my healing sessions with all who come to lie on it❤️

I know Doreen from our membership in The Grail, a women's spiritual and social justice movement, where Doreen's mother was also a member in the early days of the US Grail in the 1950s.  I'm grateful to have spent several days in Doreen's company during a Grail retreat of July 4 week, 2018, at the Cornwall Grail Center.  Doreen loved the Center and its land and contributed a lot to our efforts to prevent it from being sold. I think that her love of yoga, with its down-to-earth gracefulness, demonstrated her understanding of the sacredness of land, of all beings on the Earth. I admired her gardening skills and knowledge that testified to a deep commitment to the Earth. Doreen and I also shared commitment to the environmental-justice movement through activist work in several climate-justice groups   Here, from those memorable Grail days in July of 2018, is a short video of the July 4 parade in Cornwall-on-Hudson that shows Doreen's open-hearted joy in life.
