Mrs. Dorothy Rearden Cotton, 84 year old resident of West Point, died Saturday, February 26, 2011, at Hospice LaGrange. She was born in Chambers County on Monday, March 22, 1926, the daughter of the late Wesley H. and Vocata Mochen Rearden. Mrs. Cotton was a graduate of Lanett high School and Perry Business School in West Point. She retired from Colonial Food Store in West Point, after 31 years as Assistant Manager. Mrs. Cotton had been an active member of Shawmut First Baptist Church in Valley, Alabama.

Mrs. Cotton is preceded in death by her husband, Harvey H. Cotton, Jr.; 4 brothers, Johnny Rearden, James Rearden, Charles Rearden and Roy Rearden; and 3 sisters, Clara Hart, LeMerle Sims, and Helen Alexander. She is survived by 2 sisters, Martha Billingsley of Valley, Alabama and Betty Tomlin of West Point, Georgia, her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Camilla and Curtis Myhand of LaGrange, Georgia; several nieces and nephews and special friends, Jean Miller and family.

Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Rearden Cotton will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at 11:00 AM EST from the graveside in Marseilles Cemetery, West Point. Reverend Steve Wyatt and Reverend Chuck Anderson will officiate. The family will greet friends Monday evening, February 28, 2011, from 6:00 PM EST until 8:00 PM EST at McCarthy Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to West Georgia Hospice, 1510 Vernon Road, LaGrange, Georgia, 30240.
