Dear Mother, how I. Miss your smile and laugh, your cheerful disposition, your love and kindness. I think of you every time I watch Pollyanna. I miss you reciting, The Raggedy man, Little Orphan Annie! Singing, my Pa's bigger than your pa, two little boys, mares eat oats, chickeree chick cha la cha la, I miss calling you and being able to tell you anything and you always had time to listen. I miss our talks and positive attitude. I loved that you always took us back to school shopping, how you sacrificed for us. I loved coming home to a clean house and crawling into your bed to tell you about my dates or adventures. You were never too tired to listen. I love you and miss you mom. Thank you for all you've done for me.

Hello sweet Grandma,
I still remember my times with you and how awesome a
person you and Gramps were to me and my family.
I will never forget the smell of your beautiful home in San Diego
and the lemons in your alley that I scarfed on and you making breakfast for us in the kitchen. What a wonderful memory! Thank you Grandma
again for all your love. Rhett

Happy happy birthday my dear mother. There is rarely a day goes by that I don't think of you. I still miss calling you and telling you my thoughts and feelings or sharing news with you. I love you always. What I wouldn't give for a day with you. I take care of a delightful 100 year old lady twice a week and I treat her with all the love, kindness, and care I wish I could give to you. I know you are serving others in heaven. Love you forever.

Two years from moms passing seems hard to believe until I remember all that has happened since then. Remembering her love of the Gospel and her faith in her Lord and Savior. I know she is happy and busy helping making all of her loved ones lives better from the other side.

Summer DeMarcus Wilda: Grandma often sang "Two Little Boys" to us. This song was so much a part of her and my girls love it now. As I grew, I realized how difficult it must have been for her to sing these words given that she had lost a son in battle in addition to losing other children. Does anyone know the history of this song? I've shared the lyrics as a story on this page.

Two Little Boys

May 13, 2012

There were two little boys, who had two little toys
Each had a wooden horse.
Gayly they played, one summer's day
Warriors both, of course.
Then one little chap, had a mishap
Broke off his horses head.
Wept for his toy, then cried for joy as his young comrade said:

'Did you think I would leave you crying,
When there's room on my horse for two?
Climb aboard, and we'll soon be flying through the ranks of the boys in blue.
Maybe someday we'll both be soldiers and our horses will not be toys.
Do you think, then, that we'll remember, when we were two little boys?'

Long years had passed. War came at last.
Bravely they marched away.
Cannons roared loud, 'midst the mad crowd.
Dying and wounded Joe lay.
There came a loud crash. A horse dashes past,
From out of the ranks of blue.
It galloped away, to where Joe lay. And a voice rang strong and true:

'Did you think I would leave you dying,
When there's room on my horse for two?
Climb aboard and we'll soon be flying through the ranks of the boys in blue.
Did you say that I'm all atremble?  Well, it may be the battle's noise,
Or it may be that I remember, when we were two little boys.'

As sung by Dorothy to her grandchildren.  She helped me with the lyrics over the phone as I wrote the words down in 1995.
