My beloved friend and sister Emmy, you’re so vivacious, beautiful inside and out, caring, industrious, and simply the epitome of a virtuous woman! You loved God so much and humanity and would stop at nothing to offer a helping hand whenever possible even at the expense of your own comfort. We’ll miss you dearly on this side of life, but I am comforted knowing that you’re now home, happy as you said and at peace with your creator far away from earthly pains and cares. Emmy, I’m grateful to God for the times He allowed you to share with us. Rest well my dearest till the resurrection morning. God bless the memory of the righteous.

Emelda dear little cousin. The last time I saw you about 38 years ago, you were just a little girl. My consolation is that we know that you are in the presence of your creator our Heavenly Father. I pray peace and comfort over your husband, daughter and your siblings. Keep on smiling in heaven dear little cousin.

Emelda "Emmy" Emmanuel, PhD

I’m looking for one word that can convey your essence: I think of passionate; loving comes to mind; steadfast is another. Resourceful, is yet another. Determined. Strong. Soldier. Saint. These are apt too, because you were so many things to so many people: a disciplined professional for whom teaching came easily, not merely as a job, but as a calling and a ministry. Your students will miss you as much as your fellow colleagues. You modeled a powerful work ethic and demonstrated that even early life disadvantages can be overcome by sheer dint of effort, with God’s blessing. You ascended the heights of your career and profession. You were the first PhD in our family. Your achievements are eclipsed only by your Christian character and witness. I’ve only ever known you to be a Christian - unwavering, immovably committed to Jesus and to His church. You are one of those “..of whom the world is not worthy…” as the Holy Scriptures says in Hebrews 11:38

My wife called you Emmy, and I took after her. I’m yet to see a sister that loved her sister the way you did. And that love naturally extended to me. You didn’t love from a distance, but were involved deeply, everyday. You were my sister-in-law. And now I think I found the fitting word: Sister! For you were far more than a sister-in-law to me. I love you and I’m proud of you.
You were part of the bond that held our marriage together. I never thanked you properly for the times your wisdom intervened to soothe our differences. I will have to wait until we see again! And surely we shall. For those who sleep in the Lord are blessed and are resting from their labours (Revelations 14:13).
Rest. In. Peace.

Your sister, SANDRA NDIDIAMAKA UDEH

Sis Emmy, i am still trying to accept the fact that you are truly gone. It is devastating to know that i will never see you again. There was never a dull moment with you, always laughing, very chatty and had a very positive approach to life that i admired. Very relentless, ambitious and courageous which made you unique. Your strong spirit was an inspiration to me, you were also a great great communicator no matter how quiet someone was, you managed to bring them into a conversation.

I will always remember your bright smile and kind soul, you always lifted my spirit when it was down. Years ago when i spent most of my holidays with you in Abuja you never made me feel alone, you took me everywhere you went and engaged me in spiritual matters that are of great benefit to me today. You were present in all important events of my life and never stop encouraging me. You were not just a sister but my best friend and protected me in a motherly way, you always gave me a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on.

I am still finding it hard to believe that you are gone, it seems so strange and surreal and i ask if this is a dream, where is the laughter that i know and that generous soul for which i was glad? I miss all the little ways you showed that you cared. I miss all the good moments we shared together. You were my confidant on whose loving support i depended on.

The only thing i can depend on right now is my memory of you which brings me comfort and make me smile. I believe you are in a better place sis, i will never forget the loving memories you gave and your caring words i once again long to hear. Love you always. May your soul rest in abundant peace.

How does one say goodnight in the day! We met with sweet hellos and now a sad goodbye, i am yet to come to terms with this sad reality, we all are. All we have now is the memory of your smiles, kindness and values. Your person has left an indelible mark in our heart. While we struggle to adapt, with heavy heart, lips, and eyelids - Goodnight sweetheart till we meet to part no more…

A TRIBUTE TO
THE MEMORY OF DR MRS EMELDA UDEH EMMANUEL
FROM SOCIOLOGY CLASS 99 GRADUATES,
UNIVERSITY OF ABUJA

When fate’s routes merged us up as course-mates in that wonderful class at Uni-Abuja in the 90s, you were young, vibrant physically and rigorous academically. You were an epitome of excellence in learning, character and morals. You actively participated in fulfilling the class’s dream of ensuring all won by graduating; a feat that was achieved.
Thanks once more for everything in absentia. You were the first among us to get your Doctorate Degree; and generously decided to groom the younger generations by becoming a Lecturer. How lucky and blessed are your students! You represented your faith excellently. You represented us your class-mates excellently and you of course represented Nigeria and Nigerians excellently. You will be indelible in our hearts. REST IN PEACE SISTER EMELDA. May Almighty grant your family the fortitude to cope and may we all take solace in the hope of seeing again in God’s Kingdom.

One day it happened, In a blink of an eye, so sadly her life ended without a chance to say goodbye. Sister Emmy you were such a beautiful soul with a beautiful smile without a care in the world you made it worthwhile. I remember how we grew up in love...... Sister Emmy u lived in Christ and your gain is enternal life with God. Adieu my dear sister, may your gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Amen. Francisca Nkechiyere Osakwe nee Udeh.

She is gone
You can shed tears that she’s gone, or you can smile because she lived. You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back, or you can open open your eyes and see all that she has left. Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her, or you can be full of the love that you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember her and only that she is gone, or you can cherish her memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn and turn your back, or you can do what she would want:
Smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

A valentine love you received from Heaven, not as we would have imagined but the Heavens rejoiced as you returned home. Though we prayed so earnestly to have you back, somewhere in our hearts we knew you were at peace.

You are missed so desperately but God needs you to rest with an everlasting joy in His presence.

Emelda my darling sister, I was really looking forward to seeing you in OG come April, but unfortunately you couldn't make it there. I greatly remember your gentle demeanor, your ever smiling face. You will be greatly missed, but heaven has surely gained a gem. Sleep on my darling sister. God knows best.
