Poem For My Grandma

July 31, 2013

Sleep Now

Although I cannot see you,
I feel your presence near.
I will hold you close in memory,
Till I drop my very last tear.

So sleep now with the angels,
And your golden heart let rest.
Although our hearts are broken,
We know GOD took the best.

So dance beyond those golden gates,
And join your loving mum.
I'll see you when I'm sleeping,
And pray for you to come.

A Little About My Grandmother

Ethel Lee Mckenzie was born on December 5th ,1933 in Weriton West Virginia to the parents of J.C & Marie Dickey . She was the oldest of three sister Thelma , Yvonne , Anna .Ethel graduated from Dunbar High School in 1952 . My Grandma got married  on September 1st ,1956 she married the love of her life John Davis Mckenzie , They had two beautiful girls Marica & Lisa . Furthemore Ethel was a god fearing , strong and loving Daugther , Mother , Wife , Grandmother , Sister and friend . She was always up to something whether it be cooking or being with family .  Family was very important to my grandma , my grandmother loved to travel and shop and most importantly loved the Lord . And aslways instilled in me and my cousins  how important he is and why we should always thank him each and every day of my life . And always call on him in the good and bad times .She was a women of pure class , with a heart of pure gold . I have some many sweet memories about my grandmother . I am forever grateful for all the lessons and laughs we shared I will cherish them forever . I just wish I had one last time to talk to her laugh with her but my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ had other plans he needed her with him she was called home on July 29th ,2013 after a lengthy illness she was diagnosed with Alzhiemer's Disease . Hearing this news and the likely outcome was heartbreaking I pray they find a cure for this brain disease immediately so no other family will have to deal with the pain . Grandma

Thank you for the gift of love,
Now you're sharing it up above.
You had many things to say.
All in a caring way.
You always saw good in everyone,
No matter what they've done.
You were always the one we could all lean on.
Even though it must have felt like a ton.
You were always the strength of the family.
Now we must let you rest peacefully.
As we say goodbye,
As tears roll down our eyes.
I know your place in heaven has a good view.
Because you're telling God,
I need to keep an eye on a few.
I know you will always be in our hearts and mind.
So Grandma,
I must go, but I'll never forget you're one of a kind.
