June 4th of this year is Vishakha bahula thrayodashi (వైశాఖ బహుళ త్రయోదశి). Remembering my father gives me a great pleasure every time because of his smiling and cheerful face. He is one person who enjoyed the company and entertained the people close to him.

It gives me a great pleasure to think of my father on this July 16th that marks his 89th birthday. Recently I got a chance to see his secondary school leaving certificate from Viresalingam Theistic High School in Rajahmundry. He used to tell me about the social reformer Kandukuri Veeresalingam Pantulu in my childhood. He taught me mathematics during my school days which still remains as my favorite subject.

My father's second year death anniversary ceremony was performed at Rajahmundry on May 28, 2022. This time, I and my brother Moorthy did it together in Kambamvari satram located near the banks of the river Godavari. Thanks to my paternal uncle Satyanarayana for his help, guidance and arranging the priest Shankaram poojari. It was exciting that our important relatives and elders from Kakinada, Rajahmundry, Vadisaleru and Konala joined this time to observe and bless us. This is one pleasant memory I would never forget.

I recall some sweet memories of my father on his 87th Birthday. He introduced me the taste of Bammera Pothana's poetry during my childhood. His melodious voice singing the poems like "Sirikim jeppadu", and "Laavokkinthayu ledu" still lingers in my mind. He told me the story of Sreenatha challenging Pothana. Consequently, I got interested in both those poets.

On this Vinayaka Chavithi I fondly remember my father. He used become a priest on Vinayaka Chavithi (వినాయక చవితి) day to perform pooja and tell us Vinayaka's story. The best part is the delicious thalikalu (తాలికలు) and undrallu (ఉండ్రాళ్ళు) prepared by mother Bhramaramba. It is a sweet memory of my childhood that lasts for life.

I fondly cherish the memories of Sri Venketaramayya garu for ever although he left us suddenly. He was a benevolent personality, very soft spoken, with high resolute of mind. During his entire service he was a very sincere and hard working engineer with dedication and honest to the core. I personally think ,his life’s fulfillment ,above all ,was his untiring service to his wife in her last phase of her life. My acquaintance with him started since about 12 years old and he was the most respected ,educated elder of our times ,whom I lost ,but not his memories.

My Dad is a great person, who was modest and kind to almost all those whom he knew. It is a shock to me to loose him so soon. I have many things to talk to him yet, but he is no more. I am not alone. There are many others who are also mourning for his loss. May his soul attain utmost divinity!

His Life

An Executive Loved by All

May 22, 2020
Sri Gadisetti Venkataramayya (గడిశెట్టి వెంకటరామయ్య), was born to the couple Gadisetti Veeranna (వీరన్న, ~1898 - January 13, 1991, ప్రమోదూత నామ సంవత్సర పుష్య బహుళ త్రయోదశి) and Mangayamma (మంగాయమ్మ, ~1914 - February 25, 1965, క్రోధి నామ సంవత్సర మాఘ బహుళ దశమి) on July 16, 1934 at Rajahmundry (రాజమండ్రి) in East Godavari district.  After completing school, Venkataramayya got scholarship to study engineering at Kakinada Engineering College.  He married Bhramaramba (భ్రమరాంబ), the daughter of Kada Chandrudu (కాద చంద్రుడు), a rich businessman from Kakinada (కాకినాడ) on May 15, 1955. They lived together happily ever after.  Venkataramayya served the Government as a civil engineer who got reputation as an honest and kind officer. He worked all over Andhra Pradesh on major irrigation projects.  After retirement, he enjoyed the rest of his life with his family members. He is survived by his sons Chandramouli (చంద్రమౌళి) and Moorthy (మూర్తి) and grandson Sisir (శిశిర్).

Kodati Mahalakshmi (కోదాటి మహాలక్ష్మి)

July 15, 2023
My father used to tell a lot about his youngest sister Mahalakshmi (మహాలక్ష్మి). After getting employed as an engineer, the first responsibility he took care of was Mahalakshmi's marriage. Mahalakshmi married Kodati Venkata Satyanarayana (కోదాటి వెంకట సత్యనారాయణ) garu and lived in Tanuku (తణుకు) of West Godavari district. My father loved his sisters. I remember visiting their places in my childhood. The families got even closer after my parents moved to Rajahmundry. Mahalakshmi's children have grown up and settled. Her grandson successfully completed engineering and settled in a well paid job.  Mahalakshmi moved from Tanuku to the home of her son Venkateswara rao (వెంకటేశ్వరరావు) in Balabhadrapuram.  A few days ago I got the sad news that Mahalakshmi also left us in pursuit of her journey towards heavens. Venkateswara rao told me that she passed away on March 19, 2023.  It happens to be three days before Ugadi (ఉగాది).  The thidhi was Shubhakrutu naama samvatsara phalguna bahula trayodasi after 8:07 am (శుభకృతు నామ సంవత్సర ఫల్గుణ బహుళ త్రయోదశి) and dwadasi before 8.07 am.

My Father's Official Signs

May 20, 2023
I have a lot to be proud of my father beginning from my childhood days.  In his career, he worked on the development of the basic infrastructure for agriculture of the combined state of Andhra Pradesh, the benefits of which are being enjoyed by the two Telugu states now. He used to mention that it is highly satisfying to see the excitement of the farmers when the waters were flown in to their farms once the projects were completed. He was born before India got its independence and began working as a civil engineer since 1950s after India's constitution was written.  As a government officer, he maintained his dignity, and was praised by all those associated with him. After his retirement, he lived a completely relaxed life at home.  I used to see two of his things, one is his sign board and the other is his rubber stamp as a Junior Engineer.  I copied them in this picture.  The sign board is still found on the wall of his home at Rajahmundry though rubber stamp disappeared longtime ago.  Today is his third death anniversary. I remember a lot of things about him that I am proud of and grateful to him.

My father was fond of Bammera Pothana's (బమ్మెర పోతన) poetry.  In my childhood he used to narrate the story of Gajendra mokshamu (గజేంద్రమోక్షము) from Bhagavatam (భాగవతం). I recall him singing the poems:

People liked Pothana's poetry in those days because of his easy and melodious style.
