Ichie Fide C. Nwaogu
was born on 4th February, 1948 at Umuowa in Orlu L.G.A. as the
second son and second child of Nze Duruiheoma Nwaogu & Ezinne Agnes Uhie
Nwaogu both of blessed memory.
He attended St.
Paul’s Catholic Primary School, Omanelu, Ahoada in Rivers State from 1956 –
1961 and passed First School Leaving Certificate Examination in Distinction. He
gained admission into Stella Maris College Port-Harcourt in 1963 and was in class
five in 1967 when the Civil War broke out and all the schools in the then
Biafra enclave was closed in July 1967.

then enlisted into Biafran Army and served as a Senior Signal Officer in the 14
Division of the Biafran Army in Owerri Sector.
When the Civil
hostilities ended in January 1970, and it was impossible for the Igbos to
return to Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, Ichie Fide C. Nwaogu was admitted into
Class 5 “Special” at Bishop Shanahan College (BSC), Orlu where he passed the
West African Certificate Examination in Division two. He immediately entered
Bishop Shanahan Teachers Training College (BSTC), Orlu where he graduated in
1972. He taught very briefly in 1973 and gained admission into the University
of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) to read Political Science. While in the UNN, Ichie Fide
C. Nwaogu was one of the visible undergraduates on campus as he took part in
most of the Students Union’s activities and other Social Clubs in addition to
academics.
He was a member of
Student Representative Council (SRC) in 1974 – 1975 and contested the
Presidency of the UNN Student’s Union in 1975 – 1976 as well as organized the
Cultural Week of the Student Union of the University as the Chairman of that
Cultural Week, in the session.

graduated from the University of Nigeria in Political Science in June 1977. On
graduation, he was posted to the then Borno State for the primary assignment of
the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) from 1977 – 1978 where he served as the
Asst. Sec to Kukawa LGA in Borno State. On completion of the NYSC Programme in
August 1978, Ichie Fide C. Nwaogu taught briefly at the Higher School Section
of Holy Ghost College Owerri, Imo State before joining the Imo State Civil
Service in January 1979. He started his Civil Service Career in Government
House, Owerri from where he was moved to various Ministries/Non-Ministerial
Departments and Parastatals within Imo State. In Oct. 1987, Ichie Fide C.
Nwaogu was posted to the Imo State Liaison Office, Victoria Island, Lagos as
the Chief Information Officer, and there he served for 6years before he was
deployed to Owerri, Imo State, and appointed the Chief Press Secretary to the
then Imo State Governor Chief Evan Enwerem in 1993. In 1994, he was promoted
the Director of Information in Imo State and later deployed as the Director of
Printing Service/Government Printer in 1996.
However, in 2001 Ichie
Fide C. Nwaogu was appointed the Administrative Secretary of Imo State
Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC), and it was there that he was elevated
to the post of Permanent Secretary in the Imo State Civil Service in 2003 and
posted to Government House, Owerri as the Principal Secretary to the Imo State
Executive Governor.
Ichie Fide C. Nwaogu
served as the Principal Secretary to Governor Achike Udenwa from 2003 until the
end of that administration on 29th May 2007.
After the handover to
Governor Ikedi Ohakim, His Excellency, Chief Sir Ikedi Ohakim reappointed Ichie
Fide C. Nwaogu as his Principal Secretary. Ichie Fide C. Nwaogu finally retired
from the services of Imo State Civil Service on 25th June, 2007.
Ichie Fide C. Nwaogu
had a bachelor of Law degree from the Imo State University Owerri and was called
to the Nigerian Bar in 2013.
Ichie Fide C. Nwaogu
was a member of many professional bodies and social organizations. He had
served as the Secretary of the University of Nigeria Nsukka Alumni Association,
Owerri Branch under Late Senator Emeka Echeruo as the President; he had also
served as the Vice President, University of Nigeria Nsukka Alumni Association
Lagos under Chief Onyema Ugochukwu as President. Ichie Fide C. Nwaogu was a
member of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Nigerian Institute
of Management (NIM), as well as a member of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
He was most importantly, one of the patrons of the University of Nigeria Alumni
Association, Owerri branch and Special Marshall FRSC, Imo State. Ichie Fide C.
Nwaogu loved football, reading and watching interesting films.
He was a people’s
person, greatly loved by all and is acclaimed to have helped many individuals
to secure employment into the Imo State Civil Service and other Public
Institutions. He was a prime son of Umuowa, Orlu LGA, Imo State where he holds
the esteemed traditional title of ENYIOHA UMUOWA. Ichie as he is fondly called
was a long standing member of the Eze’s cabinet and the recipient of the UMUOWA
HALL OF FAME award, an exclusive preserve of distinguished sons and daughters
of Umuowa, Orlu.
