Montezuma in the International Scout

July 25, 2013

Around 1978 or so I was invited to go up to Montezuma with the Eulers for a weekend adventure, and so we packed into the finely tuned, brownish International Scout and forged our way through the snow to a quaint little cabin in the middle of, what seemed to me, nowhere. Jack is the man that I would want to have along on any adventure. Even though he was softly spoken, you could just sense the wealth of wisdom, confidence, and genuine care and concern. Always a bonus for me, was the smell of Jack's pipe which seemed calming and peaceful. Grant and I built a snowcave to sleep in outside of the cabin and I remember getting Jack's advice and approval on this winter construction project. I think we slept for a few hours in the cave and eventually made it back into the cozy little cabin filled with the warming aroma of Jack's tobacco. Some of my best childhood memories are from being around the Euler family as they were always welcoming and so kindhearted. Loved riding in Grant's Willies jeep that he and Jack restored together.....certainly will miss him.
