A Time to Be Born

Mr. James McQueen, Sr., affectionately referred to as “Mr. Step”, one of 15 children, was born to the late Curly and Bobbie McQueen in Letohatchee, Lowndes County,Alabama on October 3, 1928. Surrounded by his devoted wife and children, Friday April 22, 2016 at West Georgia Medical Center, Mr. Step made his greatest step here on Earth and transition Home to be with Our Lord.

A Time to Plant and Serve

Confessing Christ as his Lord and Savior, “Mr. Step” joined Mt. Nebo Baptist Church and was ordained as a Deacon under the tutelage of the late, Rev. B.C. Carter. Mr. McQueen served the church faithfully until his health failed under the leadership of Rev. W.G. Wimberly.

A Time to Live

On July 7, 1951 he was united in marriage with Frances Ausby McQueen. This union was blessed with 12 children. He was a devoted husband and father, dedicated to the nurturing and rearing of his children.

God favored Mr. McQueen to have a very prosper career in the pulpwood industry being self-employed for many successful years.

A Time to Love

Mr. Step was a lover of mankind and he possessed many wonderful qualities; Cheerful, helpful and Christian-hearted. His pleasant spirit radiated through his frequent waves to passerby’s, long handshakes and comical nature always brought smiles to all he came in contact with.

A Time to Mourn

He is preceded by his three brothers, Love McQueen, Jack McQueen, and Curly McQueen Jr.; five sisters, Eddielena Green, Alma Stewart, Ray McQueen, Lillian Speer, and Lugeian Small.

He leaves to cherish his memories: His loving and devoted wife of 64 years ,Mrs. Francis McQueen, West Point, GA; four sons, James (Gloria) McQueen Jr., Willie McQueen, West Point, GA, Frank (Barbara) McQueen, Hinesville, GA, Steve (Regina) McQueen, East Point, GA ; eight daughters, Linda (Charles) Gunsby, Barbara McQueen(James), Cheatrice McQueen, West Point, GA, Frances Sands, Lanett AL, Helen (Walter) Williams, Los Angeles, CA, Gail Hunter, Debra Rhodes, LaGrange, GA, Carla (Charles) Hardaway, Tyler, TX; two brothers, Love McQueen , Montgomery, AL, William McQueen(Ann) Lanett, AL; four sisters, Rachel McQueen, Louisa (John) Coley, Louisiana Osborne, Barbara (James) Roberts, Montgomery, AL; 42 Grandchildren; 67 great grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; one aunt, Lillie Mae Sankey of Panola, AL; one sister-in-law, Hattie Mae McQueen of Birmingham, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
