Two years ago today the girls and I lost my husband and their dad. And our grandchildren miss him as well.  It has been a hard two years but they have been busy ones. Jerry, we pray you are fishing in heaven with your buddies, enjoying your family who went before you, and most importantly, that you physically see Jesus and know His love!

His Life

Grandpa

April 8, 2022
Jerry adored and was proud of all of his 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren (& one due August 2022).  He enjoyed playing with them, showing them how to fish, and teasing them.  It didn't matter if they were biological grandchildren, adopted grandchildren, grandchildren through blended families, or grandchildren from international students whom he and Georgia served as host family.

Jerry started having heart problems in about 2008 and by 2017 he ended up with a heart pacemaker.  After he was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes, it was later realized that he had been exposed to agent orange during his tours of duty in the Navy.  Jerry was a strong person and fought hard for 5 years to stay positive through all his many doctor visits, increasingly incredible pain, and severe complications throughout his body due to the diabetes.   His body was finally too tired, weak, and worn out;and succumbed to the effects on March 11, 2022.

Jerry, the Volunteer

April 8, 2022
Jerry was passionate about serving as a volunteer with the American Red Cross, where he dedicated over 40 years.  He first taught First Aid and CPR, then became certified as a trainer of First Aid and CPR trainers.  He also served in all capacities on the (then) Dodge County Board of the American Red Cross.  Jerry joined with the Disaster Services as a volunteer, providing assistance to individuals impacted by floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, fires - wherever the disasters took him in the United States.

Jerry and I are cousins. His dad Bob, a WWII veteran, was my mom's brother. As little kids, Jerry and I used to hang out, play and fish together mostly at his house on the big island near the Platte River. We had a lot of fun and Jerry was always joking around. I remember Jerry having his appendix removed on an emergency basis during this time and I always thought that might happen to me, however, I still have my appendix. Jerry's mom, Aunt Lorna, came by our house in Fremont when I was about 5 years old and playing outside. It was a Sunday morning so she asked why I wasn't at church. I said we don't go to church. She went into our house and came out a short time later. She said mom had given her permission to take me and my sister, Peggy, to church. We went to First Christian Church and remained members there through high school.

I was not aware the Jerry served in the Navy. Thank you Jerry for your service to the country that we both love and honor!!! Thank you Georgia for honoring Jerry on this website!!

Based on the very brief biography here, I'll bet Jerry is a wonderful husband, loving father and trusted friend of everyone who gets to know him.

May God continue to bless Jerry and his family!!
