Jesse married Thelma J Johnston January 21, 1938 after she graduated high school.  He joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served as Radio Man aboard the Destroyer USS Douglas H Fox during WWII, surviving a Kamikazee attack.  They had 5 children.
