Dad really enjoyed the great outdoors! I remember many times when we saw something beautiful(sunsets, geese flying, corn crop, pastures)he would tell me how wonderful God was to create such beauty for us to enjoy. He gave praise to his Heavenly Father!

I've been blessed to know some great men in my life. My Grandfather, my Father and an Uncle who was a true man.
Slow to anger, quick of wit and gentle of spirit.
Salt of the Earth...that's the man my Uncle was.

From the first time, almost 45 years ago, that I had the pleasure of meeting this remarkable man, I knew that I was truly blessed. I am so thankful for the years that I was able to spend with him as a living example of what it means to be a gentleman.

Grandpa embodied the word "gentleman". He was able to make anyone feel important; clearly He loved the Lord and his family above even his love of farming. My many memories of visits to The Farm will go with me forever.

We are missing you so much, our beloved father. You were such a loving, generous father and friend. We are all so blessed to have had you with us for 88 years but that was really not long enough. See you soon.

I really admire John and Julia's marriage. I love how he would tell me often how great of a mother and wife Julia is and she would tell me what a wonderful husband and provider he was. He cherished his wife and she honors and respects her husband.

We were visited yesterday by you grandson Steve, his daughter Ashley also she and Donald's children Wesley and Joanna and wow did they have a great time with all the green tractors, Wesley was so excited to get here for the experience. Wheat harvest is about here and you would also be getting ready to cut a big pile of silage. Again thanks for your gentle and kind personality

My dear dad, I miss you today and every day. We would be celebrating your 99th birthday with cake and ice cream.
You are frequently remembered for wise words that you spoke when I was growing up. “You can hear the corn growing” when it was hot and humid. We need some more rain and some heat to help the corn grow this year and to make the pastures capable of feeding cattle. You are so loved and cherished. Happy birthday, dad.

Grandpa stories

June 25, 2018

A week or so ago I was talking to Cobe and Nicole about all of the fun times I had in Stratton.  They don't remember their Grandpa John very well.  I was telling them of how friendly he was.  Everytime we were out and about or out to dinner he would strike up a conversation with someone, whether he knew them or not.  He touched the lives of so many people.

Love you, dad.

Another year has passed since you left us to go to Heaven. I miss you here on the farm. It’s been a strange spring with wet cool days. The wheat is not nearly ready for harvest. The corn looks good. The  cattle in the pastures are doing good. I know you and Rick are talking over old times since he joined you in July. So sad for all family but I know Jesus and Aunt Ann welcomed him to Heaven. Until I join you in Heaven, continue to watch over us. Love eternally ❤️
