Josephine Dixon Price Hester, 89, longtime resident of Creedmoor, NC passed away April 24, 2017 at Duke University Hospital due to complications from AML.

Josephine was born on December 3, 1927 in Kenly, NC to the farming family of George Dixon and mother Louise Pierce. She graduated from Kenly High School and then attended Carolina Nursing School in Wilson, NC where she met her husband to be Herman C. Price. Marrying in 1947, after 2 years of nursing school, she delayed her career to help support her family while Herman completed Pharmacy school in SC. They moved to Creedmoor with their 4 children in 1956 for an opportunity to partner in the Creedmoor Drug Company. She was parted from her husband by his early death in 1961. To support her family, Josephine became the bookkeeper and office administrator of the newly opened South Granville High School in 1962, while completing a Croft Business College degree. In 1966 she married Maurice W. Hester of Creedmoor. Josephine continued to work at SGHS until her retirement in 1993. She then channeled her energy serving and overseeing the Food & Clothes Mission of the First Baptist Church until 2012 when her health limited her. She was a devoted mother to 4, grandmother to 4, step-grandmother to 2, and great-grandmother to 2 children.

In addition to her parents, Josephine Hester was preceded in death by her husband Herman C. Price and second husband Maurice W. Hester (Dec 1991), by her sisters Annie Ruth Daniel and brothers William Dixon and George Dixon Jr. of Kenly. She is survived by her sister Elizabeth Winders of Richmond, Va. and Josephine’s 4 children; Herman C. Price Jr., Michael W. Price (wife Cindy) and Dwight F. Price of Creedmoor, and Carolyn

P. Wooten, (husband Dennis) of Franklinton, and her stepdaughter Janice Hester Collins of Aubrey, Tx. She is blessed by 4 grandchildren Kristin Wooten Peebles (husband Brian), Matthew S. Wooten, Michael W. Price Jr. (wife Katherine) and Jeremy J. Price (wife Jessica) and 2 great-grand-children Madison P. Peebles and Owen N. Peebles.

Josephine was a very dear Christian friend, who loved her Lord and served him well through her ministry at the Food & Cloths Mission. She will be dearly missed. I will miss her smiling face, especially while with the Keenagers on a bus trip out to eat. Love you Josephine. We will miss you!

So sad to learn of Mrs. Hester's passing. We would see her out and about over the last few years and she always had that same friendly manner and sweet smile that greeted us in the office at SGHS each day. Deepest sympathies to all of her family.
